FOR THOSE WHO PREFER AN RSS FEED/BLOG FORMAT CLICK HERE

I've had my S70 for just over 8 years now. Being a non-turbo car, however, means that pretty much every modification done so far has been cosmetic or suspension related. Given this, I decided that I wanted to take the project one step further - and do a turbo engine swap.

Many of you know that this has been in the works for quite some time, but for those who don't, this thread is here to chronicle the progress made as I complete this project. First and foremost, big thanks to Matt (Matty Moo) for donating his garage and help with this project Also thanks to Tom (Tom.) for picking up the motor for me and shipping it. Also thanks to everyone else who's been answering my questions as I've been going about this - too many of you to name, but you all know who you are. I know that I could not complete a project like this without Volvospeed.

GOAL: To have a daily driver putting down about 300whp. This is not a weekend or track day toy so nothing exotic like a built motor.

HARDWARE: Here's a partial list of what's going into this car. I'm leaving more minor items and all the maintenance items off the list, but if anyone comes across this thread in the future and has questions about what component was used (IE, OEM v. Aftermarket) feel free to ask.

Engine/Drivetrain:
2000 Volvo V70R 2.4L Motor (95K miles)
Volvo M56H 5-speed manual transmission
Volvo Euro 850R Clutch (PN 272218)
Volvo 19T Turbo
Volvo S60/V70R Exhaust Manifold (PN 30637921)
Volvo/Bosch "Green" Injectors (475cc)
Volvo 98-style intake manifold port-matched to 00 block
Turbosmart Kompact Blow-off Valve with custom piping/recirc parts (Thanks Hussein!)
Bay Valve Service CBV Blanking Plate
IPD HD CBV for now

Engine Management:
IPD Stage III T5M ECU
Turbosmart Eboost2 Electronic Boost Controller
Auto Meter 3378 Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge
Blitz Illumi-Drive Analog Boost Gauge

Other Performance:

IPD/CJ 3" Stainless Steel Downpipe
EuroSport Tuning 2.5" Cat-Back Exhaust
EuroSport Tuning Cold Air Induction system
Generic Front-Mount Intercooler w/2.25" IC Piping
Stylin' Motors Radiator Hoses and Vac Kit
QuickBrick Motorsports Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer

UPDATE: Project has been canceled, and the car will be returned to non-turbo.

I'd slap some JB Weld on that parts motor hole and call it a day. ;)

Good to see this thread Daniel, I hope it goes smoothly.

Ventilated block will keep the crankcase pressure from rising. :)

Those jack stands look like they have never been used before.

I agree, plenty of small details to think about. Seems there are a few of us now with similar projects, so there should be some good info floating around that we can all pull from. :)

About time we see some pictures for this! Looking forward to updates Dan.

What are the specs of the IPD Tune your using? Is it just the Ipd 18T tune?

Yup! Have a couple M4.4 turbo wire harnesses actually.

I just have to say it. :D

sell it and buy a turbo car.

While that might make sense for most people, I will never sell this car. It's finally the way I want it, and I know for sure I'll never find one in as good of condition.

I'll be the first to admit though, in most cases doing a project like this does not make economic sense.

Actually used them to part out the R...but yes, they're new-ish.

Absolutely true, I would not be able to do this without everyone else doing similar projects.

It's just IPD's 18T Stage III, set up for white injectors.

Thanks for all the comments!

FOR 99% people I agree.

That said. A friend and I(both Volvo Mechanics) converted his Manual Na to Turbo Na in a casual weekend for 500$ . Hard to argue with that.

Keep up the good work.
