I'm tired of any doofus with a name on his blue shirt thinking he can plug into my car's network and play with the computers. Most people wouldn't allow a stranger to do that on their home network and I know for a fact nobody would allow such access at their place of work. Well, some of us rely on our cars as much as a home or a job so I want to lock morons out.

There's a little plastic OBD door on my S80 I was thinking of modding, but I also know in my line of work they sometimes make locks that go directly on the port itself. Anything like that for OBD or for Volvos in general? I already Googled (AltaVista'ed actually, because Google is spyware) and found nothing. If no, I'll post how I end up modding the door in this thread, in case anyone else is interested in doing same.

Cheers! Then puke, barf and upchuck. ?B^)

or maybe I won't... because having me contribute free content for your site is a privilege, not a right.

Relocate the factory plug elsewhere and replace it with a cut off connector from junkyard.

Probably easiest... but to answer your question, no I haven't seen or run into an OBD port lock of a mechanical nature.

If you don't trust these guys, then why let them work on your car?

What are they possibly going to do? Read and erase codes? That sounds terrifying

Truthfully, they could do more damage installing a battery.

Information Assurance for your car, awesome question Crito! What Lucky is suggesting is "security by obscurity", which is certainly a good mitigation but I wouldn't rely on it in totality. A proprietary plug configuration in the "hidden" location (especially one that doesn't appear as a OBD port) would further strengthen your infosec posture.

I have the same worries, just haven't come up with a solution. I'm worried the gov't will mess with my seat adjustments and reset my radio station preferences.

I've got just the fix. Take some of the tinfoil off of your hat and firmly surround the port with it. This will prevent those blue shirt wearing goombas from reading your codes.

The government contacted me via your OBD-II network. Of course, it was scrambled communique so I needed to get the encryption key from the google master super computers (which run AltaVista, just FYI).
After decoding the transmission, I found that I was ordered (sadly) to lock this thread because Obama demands free and open access to your fuel trim tables(probably mass conspiracy backed by foreign oil interests) and simply can not risk an OBD-II revolution in America (or Canada).

Also, just so you know, SBE`E<S*7GC79IG

This was done with V 1.25
Encryption key is "volvospeed"

I had to register my basement as an NFA item.

I moved this thread to somewhere we can have secure communications and unlocked it.

This site is indexed by google. So, google is spying on you right now!!!

You don't own a cellphone, do you? You better put that shit on a greyhound headed far away from your house. The NSA uses cellphones to track us all.

Oh, btw, living in Tennessee is way too close for comfort to the capital. You should move to somewhere like Montana to be as far away from all bombing targets as possible. It's really the only safe way to live.

Actually this is more of a concern than you might think.

Anymore dealers will simply update your vehicle with new software whether you want it or not. Most times it's not an issue but sometimes engine upgrades (ECU) will over write your stage upgrade incurring more back and forth with your tuner to get your map reloaded.

Additionally I've seen software updates wipe out user programmed preferences and then the owner has to pay to program them back.

You shouldn't fear the OBD-II port. You have to fear the CANBUS! They integrated sensors into cars these days that record how much ammonium nitrate fertilizer you have in your trunk, and as soon as the value goes above a certain threshold, they use the built in cellular transponder in your car to send an SOS to the DOD and DOHS.

You think ON*STAR is to help you find directions? That's what they want you to think! It's a government project that uses former Russian Sputnik satellites and the current Russian GLONASS system to keep tabs on Americans. While you think you may be talking to your friendly GM representative, you are actually talking to secret service agents in a secret Siberian outpost known as "USA Prime Credit." You know those Capital One commercials? It's a company called "KAPITAL No.1," they are quickly becoming the top credit card issuer because they are working with the US and Zionists to spy on us!

That's the reason I got super duper tints on my car, to hide from the satellites and spy cameras all over the place. You think I installed Dynamat in my car because it reduces sound? HA! I did it to make an even bigger Faraday cage so that "the state" can't track me.

PS: Shalom.

Are people still getting ETM upgrades on their M4.4 and ME7? Isn't that really the only thing that would wipe out shelf-tuned ECU'S?

Anything with a softloader or even TT can be remapped with a couple clicks ...

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

They (VS) wax their cars? I thought the lastest craze was to wrap them in viynl so the paint is flat. At least thats what won the IPD show.
