Hmmm.....guess I better upgrade to some Brembos, StopTechs or something better than the 302s. :o

If you end up off-road pretty much anywhere, you'll either be swimming or kissing trees. I'd be more concerned about brakes than with tires. I run up to the ragged edge on brakes to where the 2 rod width of the crossroad I'm stopping for is my run-off area. $1000 worth of custom pads lets one do such things.

Wisturbo is the only one on here that's ridden with me at anything close to max braking. I think he'll vouch for my brakes.

Man, riding along with Brian is excellent. You immediately think I'm going to wear half the corn field... and then he applies the brakes and your internal organs ditch for any hole in your body from the braking force.

He used to race cars right? That would be an experience and a half! :D

I'm guessing his brakes probably cost as much as your car. Especially when he's running one grand in custom brake pads alone.

I'm running PowerSlot rotors, stock size. Big brake kits generally add nothing more than weight. Big rotors=big wheels=more weight=need bigger brakes et cetera.
Its the pads that are magic. And tweaking the F/R brake bias.

Besides, I'm a cheap bastard and like to throw my stock 15"s on the car every couple of years. Can't do that with 330mm rotors. I have a complete set of brakes from an S70T5M I was going to put on the 40 and then figured out I could do more with less on that particular car.

A couple. Various 914/4, 914/6, 924GTS, 924Carrera, 931, 930, 934, 935, 935 Moby Dick, 936, 944GTS, 951GT, 956 Gruppe C, 962 Gruppe C GTP, (Gulf 917K/L 917/10, Donohue 917/30 [historic CanAm racing]), owned several 911's a 931, a 930 flacbau with a twin plug conversion 956 engine, a couple 951's a 968 cabriolet, a 928GTS and did a ground-up restoration on a 962 that's currently on display at the Porsche museum.

Also in historic CanAm racing ran Chaparrals, Honkers, McLaren MkV-2b, MkVI & Mk VIII's and a few others.

And now I drive Volvos. :P

Yeah...

I'm guessing this is why some won't ride with me the second time. It must be me carrying on a conversation, fiddling with the radio, playing with the sunroof and digging shiz out of the glove box whilst carving up corners at speed.

ok, so what are these super brake pads you are running? I've got slotted 302mm rotors, with Hawk carbonfiber mix pads. Was running ceramic pads but didn't really like them. The carbon pads definitely bite better.

I worked with Hawk's R&D for almost 2 years, told them what I wanted and what I got in return from them is a bit of black magic. Heated (in case of cool weather), highly organic, extremely dirty and pretty much useless for road use. Specific to the point that if I changed out the rotors for another brand of rotors they'd be a whole lot less useful. And, that's probably all you'll get out of me about them. :P

I knew I had something special when the front pads caught on fire when I was bedding the brakes in. B)

 I was kidding! I had toooo much of it last year before bed. I will have to force whomever brings more to immediately drink it or light it on fire as I still shake and shudder when I smell it or see it.

I'll be putting this on my calendar. Again probably just for the Saturday and not the overnight. And I definitely want a ride with Brian once around the drive route.

EDIT: Seriously, same weekend as the Eurowerks show AGAIN? :P
