Damn. That's an awesome deal. I could use a seondary fermentation bucket, a new ingredient pack and a $25 gift certificate would be nice too.

Is that kit worth it? I've been wanting to get back into brewing and not sure where to start..my only experience was with my dad 16 yrs ago...like I need a new hobby..

yea that's a pretty great deal...

i mean, after the ingredient kit and $25 gift card, you pay $12 for all the equipment. Of course you'd need bottles still.

The only other thing you might want is a 5 gallon carboy for secondary fermentation (conditioning), which isn't required by all beers, and can be done in the bucket anyways.

I'll look into it...we have a great store here that sells all the raw ingredients in bulk so I'd love to learn to eventually brew without buying "ingredient packs"..Bottles are NOT a problem! I picked up a nice antique capper at a fleamarket a couple years ago too.

Whats a good "how too" website to get me started?

Hopefully it gets better. :(

Started secondary fermentation for me today. Two more weeks and I'll be bottling.
Tried one last night, it was a lot better, less foam.

Still not what I was expecting, but oh well, itll get me drunk if I want.

http://homebrewtalk.com forums are nice - figure out what you need to do
http://midwestsupplies.com or http://northernbrewer.com -- figure out what equipment you need/want to buy (locally or online)

or maybe http://www.amazon.co...duct/0060531053

Started bottling my beer yesterday. Bottled six, realized I forgot to add in the priming solution. Poured them back in the bucket. Went to go make the priming solution....out of sugar. Packed it all away and will have to try again tonight. :(

First you try making beer flow uphill...now you expect the beer to carbonate itself without priming solution.

The IPA's have been getting better, couple duds but that was because of the seal not doing a good job. Trying to figure out what should be next on the list to make...

Probably got a A in physics class right? :P

Going with a Belgian Blonde for my next batch. It was the first one I did last year and had great results with it, been wanting to do another batch for a while.

Damn right. Bottled mine tonight. Got WAY more out of this one than I did the last. Probably close to 35-40 120z bottles, three of the big bottles and one medium sized growler. I had a sip of some of the beer leftover in the hose after bottling and it tasted alright. Obviously it was warm and flat so it didn't taste very good.

(orange piece on adapter is quick-disconnect, btw)

also be forewarned that the adapter put a dent on the top of the faucet :glare:

Guess you might need something like that if you didnt have a faucet that has a hose built into it. Thought about doing the power pack porter since Im starting to get a taste for porters as of late.

I actually just remembered that I had it sitting in bottles. I think I'll pop one open and make sure they're carbonating and maybe toss it in the freezer for a bit if it tastes alright.

edit....carbonated...very carbonated. Tossed the bottle in the freezer. See if I can get it cold so I can try it. It tastes kind of like my last one. I think they're too similar, not as hoppy, but kinda close.

Chilled it and it's actually pretty good. Batch #2 appears to be a success. :)

There's no reason not to... I think bottles are just easier to work with...

not that it's the sole reason -- just an example I thought up: Say you made 3 batches and put them in bottles, you drink 1/3 of each and you'll have enough bottles for a 4th batch... You do the same thing but with kegs, and you'll still have to go buy a 4th keg.

I don't have a kegerator either

i kinda figured the kegerator was what would hold folks back. you have to be able to put it somewhere. i just thought for large quantities, since a keg holds at least 5 gallons, that it'd be more efficient. if you're doing multiple batches having the extra bottles from a previous one would be good but you'll have so much beer in the fridge.
