My friend is going to install the drop bolts for me but he doesn't have a clue how to do it. Can someone please send me directions on how this is done. I'm going to purchase them shortly but this is the only thing holding me up. I have a 1999 Volvo v70xc. Thanks

A drop bolt setup is used on the 870 based cars that use Nivomats. It allows you to lower the rear of the car.

There's nothing to it really.  You remove the bolts on the lower mounts of the nivos and install the new.  Keep the spacers between the shock and lower mount.  The net effect is that you are lowering the lower mount of the shock.  It should make sense once you look under there.  You'll probably want a jack underneath the shock because it is load bearing and hard to compress.  I don't recall anything else special about the job.

Funny we just did this with lucas' V70R this past weekend. Went to Ace Hardware, bought some stainless extended bolts, some spacer nuts, and the car was dropped 1.5" in the rear.

you dont need drop bolts. you can just toss in a set of lowering springs and be good to go. R wagons and AWD had nivomat suspension. sedans didn't have those.

Lee is correct. There are two bolts... M10 I believe... that mount the lower portion of the nivomat to the lower control arm. Here's what you need to do. The tops of the bolts are held together with a thin metal bracket that also connects to some lines (it's not needed)

Lift rear of the vehicle and support on jack stands or put car on a lift.
Remove rear wheels (you don't have to, but it makes things easier to get to IMO)
Remove nuts from bolts. Remove nut from other side of bracket holding the bracket to lines.
You will then need to compress the rear suspension with the nivomat disconnected
Once you have the appropriate space between the nivomat and the lower control arm, put the spacers between them.
Install new bolts ... enjoy lowered car.

Personally, I very much like the ride with the drop bolts. I know many do not like it, but what the hell... car handles way way better IMO.

Good luck!!

That's that really matters in the long run dude...it's your car after all. With the headaches I've dealt with in regards to my Intrax set-up...I probably should have just done this too...lol

Now I just have to convert to full air ride and I'll be in a complete state of bliss!!!

I'll take your intrax headache if you go air-ride. Drop bolts are too easy... I am used to mods being much more complex.

FWIW, here is my car after installing 1.75" drop bolts in the rear. It only yielded a 1.25-1.5 drop, though. I'd suggest going a full 2", as I will in probable near future.

I installed nivomats on my '05 V70 AWD and that mods raised the rear suspension for 1". Drop bolts seams to be the only way to lower it back! But I didn't find anyone who did it on a P2.
Could it be the same as on -'00 V70? (parts and installation)

Where can I find these bolts for my car? (I guess 2" long would be fine)

How does it change the handling of the car? (i.e. Bad sides of the drop bolts)

Thanks in advance.

Completely different . You cant put bolts in the P2
What you want is S60 AWD Springs for your car If they offer that car with the nimovats

I have done this on my 01 XC and going to do it on the wifes 04 XC also.

Hey guys, first Post. Near stock 2000 v70xc. All the AWD Volvo's I've seen here using the drop bolts are 98-99, I'd assume they also work on the 2000 v70xc's, since it's a P1, but you never know with year to year revisions. I'd PM "IPD", since he was selling them, but he hasn't posted since may. Had the car for 4 years, this cure for the truck ride height will really help get the ball rolling for me.
