I just picked up an Aluminum M46 to replace the ailing one in my '89 740 Turbo Wagon, and the ID tag on the OD says "J TYPE". It doesn't have the speedo drive like a J type, and I didn't think the J would even mate to an aluminum trans due to shaft size differences.
The trans came out of an '89 740 Turbo sedan, and I watched it being pulled.
I can't get to my existing unit right now to check the tag on it, but I'm going to use this one. If I have to, I can swap with my old unit, as the trans problem is with 1st & 2nd gear, not the OD.
Do I just have a mis-tagged P type?
Curious!

Thanks for any insight anyone may have on this.
Jeff
