Are you routing your PCV back into your intake? Your valves look dirty and gummed up.

Yes, it is currently stock.

Look at that big end! Sucks! Crank doesn't look too bad.

Well, rods are easy. They have them in stock also so no problem getting one. hopefully the crank and piston are ok.

Years ago when I first started autocross, if the oil level was even only 1/2 quart from full, on fast turn arounds the idiot light would flash just at the end of the turn, but would go away immediately. I always have oil with me (along with tools, etc) at the track because you never know what might happen, so I would top it off and not have the issue again. I was cornering much slower back then also because I had no traction; automatic and Stage III means no gas until I am straight or I just light up the inside tire on the turn.

Now I have manual with LSD, so now lateraly traction is what I need to increase.

The whole purpose of the practice day for me was to test out the negative camber I got after modifying the coilovers a bit. I was at least 2.5 to 3 degrees negative, if not more. This was to help me do the turn arounds and sweepers faster, in turn keeping the RPMs higher to help me spool sooner on exit. It was an extremely fast course with two big turn arounds that were prefect for my testing. I was definately making the turns faster than I could have before.

I had low pressue when I exited the course, and it wouldn't come back up. The pump was sucking air at some point, so either the pickup was starved or the o-rings went out on the pump. Leaning toward the pickup problem based on others who have had similar failures on high load turns.

I am pushing to see what the car can do without making it a full race car. Everyone has a chance to beat me, just have to put in the practice. :) Experience has put me where I am at now, but I still have a lot to learn. The Miller's can jump in my car and easily match or beat my times. More experience and they race a whole lot more than I do.

I really enjoy beating cars that should be beating me. Part of that is I am a better driver, again because of experience, and part of it is they don't setup their cars correctly.

Most of the people on VS who are building higher HP cars aren't concerned about going around a corner quickly. They are making a drag car or just general street performer. I am taking a different direction and because of this I will encounter problems that people haven't had before. Tbrick cars wouldn't have this latest issue because I think it is only a problem with transverse engine layout. The later AWD cars might not have it either because the oil pan is different.

I am hoping that people who follow will learn from my failures. If you do, feel free to toss some money my way because this learning experience ain't cheap.

It is all about saying, "You just got beat by a Volvo." :)

Auto X is a required taste thats for sure! Ive been doing road course tracks for quite a few years now and never got the auto X bug even though I did very well the 4-5 times I did it.

I Hope that the oil pan mod will help in future events. Its always nice to see the smile wiped off peoples faces when a Volvo beats them like I did to a Maserati Quattroporte the other day from a 40-100mph at only 15psi. Put a smile on my face thats for sure.

I haven't done road courses for a while. Not since I had an engine meltdown at Portland International. :)

I would have a similar problem on road courses now anyway, so the pan would help for them also. I need to get back to doing them, especially with the new track that opened just a few hours away.

Would that pan be interchangeable on any motor with a 99+ pan? Or are there modifications needed to run that on a 99-00 block?

I can't be sure. I don't have a 99-00 block here to compare it too. Its possible that the pickup tube is slightly different.

Nice! Should be a bolt up to any block, the part number (30777698) supercedes the original 1275868, if it has no oil level sensor

The 06+ T5 motors could have it as well, since they are supposed to have virtually the same internals as the R motor except pistons. no guarantee that they have the same oil pan though.

The R pan does have an oil sensor.

Update from the machine shop.

#2 rod is shot, but we already knew that. Looking for a source for Eagle rods because the few types that RSI carries don't match and won't balance correctly.
Crank didn't make it, so I need a new one.
All pistons survived, but....
Cylinders have same damage, so the shop is recommending going to .040" over on them. If I do that, I need new pistons. The other option is to use another block with good crank and machine it to .020" over to match the pistons. I have a block may still be useable, but it is almost 300 miles from the builder. We believe I melted a piston in that one 3 years ago, but I still haven't opened it up to inspect the damage. Apparently, I have a history of killing engines and I have a few victims still around. :)

I sent a PM to Josh hoping to hear about getting a rod from the same place they did originally. I have not been able to find anything other that custom making one. In that case I would probably just go with RSI rods to get my car back sooner.

That is it for now.

Here is a photo of the difference between the rods. Crank end is not the same between them.
