I own 98 S70 T5 and used to own 95 850 turbo. My siter in law wants to give me her car (76 240) which her parents bought brand new for here for her high school graduation in 1976. Does it need smog (California)? It is a 2 door manual transmission.orange color car. It's been parked and hasn't been driven for 6 years. Does it have timing belt or chain? Is it easy to work on?
Thanks

Timing belt, non interference, so if it goes, your engine will be fine. Easy as hell to work on, maintnence isn't really a problem (although I have an 87) I assume you have an M46 transmission, which should be good unless the OD doesnt work. Pictures please
. other than that, check the wiring harness, It could have disintegrated from the 6 years of sitting.

Yes, unfortunately, 1976 is the cutoff date for smog exemptions so you will have to get it smogged at sell point and then biennially.

I was under the assumption that in California, cars that are 35 years old or older are smog exempt which would mean that you don't need to smog it.
