I have a few questions here about various things concerning installing a new audio system in an s70 volvo '00.

-I bought a sony cdxgt340 HU, an infinity basslink, and polk DB6501 6.5in component speakers. Now I'm confused about what to do with the other stock speakers. Once I replace the front speakers, I would think that the sound from the rear speakers will pollute the good sound from the front speakers. So does it make sense to turn them off/turn the volume down on those? How do I turn those speakers off? When I connect the wire harness to the HU harness, should I not connect the ones for the rear speaker? I don't think I want sound from the rear deck speakers either. What to do about those?

-The wire harness has a black wire on it for ground, do I connect it to the black wire from the HU harness? I ask because the black wire on the HU harness has a clip at the end of it that looks like it goes under a screw or something. So should I stick it under some kind of screw or what? If I stick it under a screw, what do I do about the black wire form the wiring harness.

-What is the deal with having to override the factory amp? I'm really new to car audio and audio in general so I'm not even sure what's going on here. But the guy at the installation store said he might need to override the amp or some of the speakers won't work. Is that necessary? If so how is that done and what are the implications of that?

-I'm also not sure what's going on with the basslink. The guy at the store was trying to explain it to me but I didn't get what he was saying. He said I needed to buy an amp kit to make the bass sound good. He said something about highpass and lowpass and that the wiring prepackaged with the sub isn't very good for the volvo. He blamed it on either the volvo or the headunit I forgot, but said I needed to get rca cables or something from an amp kit to make the bass sound good.
He said if I didn't buy the amp kit for $45, the sub would sound like a 6x9 and not put out much bass. But if I get the rca cables, the sub will put out a lot of bass and I think he said no vocals, just bass. Since it's going to be in the trunk, he said I should just go for the bass and get the rca cables/amp kit.
Can someone explain what he's talking about here or link me to an article explaining it I'm really not understanding what's going on and it's kind of hard to search for.

Hook them up and use the fader.

Sure, or cut the end off and hook them together.

Either use the amp or rewire to each speaker. Amp adapter either build or buy off ebay.

Basslink will operate on smallish power connections.

Can use an ebay add sub amp adapter, but hi level inputs from a speaker pair work fine, most likely sound better since the signal in the DIN cable seems very weak.

Read the owners manual for greater clarification, but all the dials and switches are just for adjustment, good luck.
