Hello!

I plan to replace my front door and dash speakers, because the front door speakers are old and doesn't work well anymore. I've been searching this forum and the internet for some information that I'm lacking at the moment. I hope you can give some advice.

1. If I install new component speakers, do I have to use crossovers and filters that come with the new speakers or the HU SC-900 and dolby protsessor already make the thing work?

2. What about the impedance of the speakers. Usually all component speaker sellers say that they are 4ohm, does it mean that midbass is 8 ohm and tweeter is 8ohm and when they are connected, 4ohm is gained? If tweeters and midbasses are both 4 ohm, how do connect them correctly without hurting the amp?

3. What is the maximum mounting depth for the door speakers? Is it 56 mm?

Not sure about the mounting depth, but you are safe with at least the depth of the existing speaker. For the impedance, you need to make sure it matches (8 ohm) or use a device that creates 8 ohm. If you use a 4 ohm speaker, it will not sound correct relative to the others. But, I'm sure other people have asked the same question.

Thank you for the answer.

It's pretty hard to find information about Dolby Prologic I system. If anybody can refer to some file or website which provide informatsion about it, I would be grateful. I wouldn't ask these questions, but I've searched many-many-many Volvo forums and got only some fractions of the answers. My biggest worry is, how to connect new components to the system: with or without crossovers. Also it's more than probable that components speakers are 4 ohm when tweeter and midbass are connected together. I wonder how Volvo has connected midbass and tweeter.

Sorry, I don't find "edit" button.

I meant that new speakers that you can buy from your local shop are 4ohm per pair(tweeter+midbass), I don't know what is the total impedance for origianl volvo component speakers.

Realized yesterday that my center dash speaker is not working.

Does the speaker cover just pop off or will I have to disassemble and/or pull out the radio from the dash to access the speaker.

It just pops up, you dont' have to remove anything. Use something flat ( flat screwdriver is not flat enough in my opinon) and lift ( may require some force) the cover from one edge at the time. There are 4 fixtures in each corner. Finding a correct speaker is very tricky, if you don't want to spend a lot of money buying it from the dealer.

Just for the update. I changed the front door and dash speakers yesterday for Focal component speakers and for now they work fine and sound good. If anybody is interested what's inside the door etc. I made some pictures of the change process.

I just replaced my front door speakers with 2 dynaudio speakers that I removed from an old C70. It was an easy process and I'm more than satisfied with the result. You just have to separate the old speaker from its own bracelet frame and glue the new speaker back on the frame. Here are a few pictures for a better idea. The plug and the impedance are the same !!!

Pretty much impossible!, if you don't want to spend a lot of money buying it from the dealer.

But if you want to keep the factory surround and have a center channel, Just Buy It.
It's a radically shallow, inverted voilcoil driver designed specifically for that spot.
It's very much a one off part. Unless you want to hack into the center vent duct,
call a few dealers and price shop a: P/N: 8622157 ( for LHD cars ).

( Cat not included in some areas. )

You WILL notice a nice difference. B)
