Many of you saw my post a while ago about the engine swap and smoke problem we were having after completing it. We had the head machined and reinstalled and all seemed to be well. Car started right up again in the garage and I turned it off almost immediately as not to run it without any coolant in it. We rolled it out and filled the coolant reservoir and then couldn't start the car. It turns over endlessly and there is an odd buzzing coming from the ignition coil and possibly the fuse box while the key is on. It's not constant just intermittent. After a wild electrical goose chase we had the ignition relay apart and spliced in some non-corroded wire to the smaller wire going into it as well as cleaned up the connections in the switch inside the relay that moved off and on, to no avail.
The electrical aspect of these cars completely baffles me, obviously. Next move is a new ignition relay, hopefully cheap, ebay, haven't priced those yet. Next move after that is possible a shop down the road that would have schematics and whatever other tools that we don't have to assess the electrical problems.
Any better idea's? What exactly does that ignition relay do? What is it's purpose?
Thanks again for the help.

Before you f'kd with relays, etc., did you check for spark & fuel? The crank or cam sensor are the most likely first steps, if it's not the cap, rotor, wires, coil, which you should also have physically checked for correct fitment.
Why the heck did you even start it without coolant? Do you have a death wish?

all that was checked. To our knowledge everything seemed fine. Good spark as well as good fuel pressure. We cleaned up the connections inside the cap and rotor as well.

I had a similar problem, the main relay on the radiator shroud had a loose connection and sent the whole car into a tailspin. No start just cranking, flashing arrow, Economy/Sports lights flashing inside, buzzing sound you mentioned etc.
Not saying its that but worth a look just in case.
