Every store tries to say a different brand is better.

Mr. Tire loves Goodyear Eagle Gt (W) (online reviews make them look like absoute crap, loud, uneven wear, etc)
NTB loves Sumitomo htr a/s P01 or Conti DWS

Everyone loves the Michelin Pilot's but they are too $$

No one seems to like the Michelin Primacy MXM4's

I want a good quiet all season 225/45/17 that will last 40-50k for the 98 V70R
I want to stay UNDER $700 installed with alignment

Tire discounters free alignment is B.S. Their prices are high, I know they price match, but is it worth it. The seem like a bunch of yahooo's there anyway.
I really liked the guy at Mr. Tire. He was really helpful

They are for my wifes car, so I don't want to hear "my car is loud as sh~t" after 6 months. OR "Something feels werid" ...you get it.

this is more of a rant......thanks

i have had the mich mx tires (cant remember anymore if it was those exact ones), and i didnt mind them. In fact i think most of the mich can be had for under 700? exalto isnt bad nor are the pilots. With mich you cant really go wrong, its just you pay more for them.

I was just about to recommend the DWS. I haven't tried them on my car, but I'm planning on getting some for my GF's next set of summer tires.

Tire places like NTB recommend sumitumo's because they are soft and cheap...

I had about 15k on my eagles with 8/32's left when I dismounted. I loved em

I'm just going to rant so you can skip this reply if you want. Asking for tire advice is tricky. Most people here have only had one maybe two sets of tires on their car. Probably some 7 year old OEM ones and brand XXXX. Brand XXXX no matter how crappy, is new and probably feels super sticky to them. Or if it wears out super fast because its a craptastic compound, they just say its "super sticky". That or go the other way and claim shit tread life even though they do a burn out a day. Also tires that are geat on one car will be shotty on another. They also change year to year. 10 years ago Nitto were good tires. Not so much anymore. Pilots are good tires, but do best IMHO on heavier RWD cars. P-Zeros are another example. I have never heard a reason why people here do not like P-Zeros, yet everyone bad mouths them. Tire advice on the internet is like medical advice on the internet..... ><

Currently I'm running Conti DWS on both '98 and '99 wagons. They are a great all season tire, but I don't think I'm going to get 40 to 50k out of them... they do kick arse in foul weather, though.

DWS are nice. A little hard, but will probably go 40k pretty easy. If you ever want to see get DWS. If you are ok with something more same 30-40k, these would be my first choice in that price range:
http://www.tirerack....romCompare1=yes
Second Choice would be
http://www.tirerack....romCompare1=yes

Both have a higher load rating than the other tires mentioned, so will give you a little peace of mind for potholes.

Neo Gen's are good bargin-bin all seasons. DWS's were meh, just get DWs and set of snows instead. Then again in GA we get maybe a week of snow a year.

edit: If your wife doesn't drive "spiritedly" the Yokos Chuck posted seem good.

Tire advice on the internet is like medical advice on the internet..... ><

Yea...no disrepect to anyone that has posted, but I am no better off that before I made this thread.

I do realize the NTB guys were young kids and I saw a few 240SX's and Civic Si's and whatnot in the employee area. "Super sticky" to them is like "OMG these tires suck" to my wife.

This is a considerable amount of money to just trust the tire store guys..... I liked Steve from Mr. Tire though.

I have Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position re960as on the T5m and like them alot. Gottem brand new for $400. It was a shady deal, but that hook-up is gone. I need to get some on the legit now.
