Here is the deal...I currently use a Blackberry and an Ipod Nano...in november I am switching to an iPhone...I waited because
A: I have verizon and my contract is up in Nov.
B: The iPhone 5 will be out by then.
Since I use my phones apps for everything and my iPod for music this seems to make sense to me...I don't need nav..I can use the phone for that..all my music is on my iPod anyway (well most is on vinyl, but that's another project) and my Sirius can be streamed via iPhone as well...and this looks to seamlessly integrate the iPhone and my cars audio system. I hate cluttered interiors and like a clean streamlined look..
Has anyone had any experience with one of these?
Any downsides that aren't "you can't play DVDs" ( or cds or tapes or 8tracks)..I don't need to play any other formats and I don't watch movies in my car..
Also I am assuming that it would work with iPhone 5 but does anyone know for sure?
The best part is..it will be wired up with old school Soundstream amps..from the early 90s.. I have a fondness for those.
thanks for any input on this...

I dunno...so-so reviews on Amazon, doesn't mean the world, but they seem objective enough.

I've been looking into similar receivers, but I'll be going strictly bluetooth and USB.

A couple of D-60IIs and a Rubicon 555..Not sure what I will use. i also have (at my parents) a MC140a 4 channel.. I have had vintage SS amps since they weren't vintage...bought my first D60 and MC140A 4ch in 1991 and reference 405 in the early 90s sometime. the D60IIs came around then too..

Ohhh my. Awesome stuff dude. One of my buddys actually had a SS cassette deck in his heavily modded 79 Malibu back in the day. That thing sounded so awesome...

I miss the days of Made in Japan headunits and Made in the USA amps...car audio was fun back then. USD Waveguides with Alesis ME-Q's converted from 110 to 12v as well as Rane X-overs...mmmm so much goodness!!!!

I also had a SS cassette deck in my 1980 RX-7..it was very good but I always dug Nakamichi decks more (still have a relatively high-end Nakamichi deck at home)..SS USA made amps are still great..look awesome, sound awesome, built like tanks and are fully repairable using a lot of discrete components on easily accessible circuit boards.

My last competition deck was one of these when I ran in the IASCA circuit. It's a Denon DCT 1000. Only 2 were sold in Canada the year I bought mine....plain looks, but amazing processing.

I've got a few old school Alpine decks and a PPI perimetric eq buried somewhere in the garage. I wish I had my old Alpine 7902 (I think that's it). It was the amazing Alpine that everyone used in competition...I sold it for huge bucks back in the day at one of the shows...one of those things I'd wished I kept.

did you ever get into the low watt/low resistance game? 25 watt Rockford Fosgate amps pushed down to 1/2 ohm..kids these days wouldn't understand with all the bullshit 2000watt ratings, but that stuff was crazy..

Yep; we had a few Orion HCCA cars in our little competition clan...one guy was running a HCCA25 and powering a MB Quart 6.5/4/tweet set, MB Quart 8" midbass and 2 Orion 15's in his 85 Shelby Charger. It sounded pretty damn good, but slammed like crazy when he wanted it to. He had a complete custom built alternator made as well to provide a more stable current supply.

I miss those awesome car audio days...it's just not even close to the same anymore.

Nah..Its all Chinese made junk with ridiculous claimed wattage's...everyone thinks that a speaker rated at 1000 watts means its "loud" and amps are all bullshit numbers. Hell I don't even know what head units are good anymore...
Used to have a Nak. deck with a SS mc140a powering all Nak separates up front and 1 USA made Kicker 10 in a modified 5th order in back of an RX-7..best system I ever had..even impressed a couple competition guys. Kristian (sconeman) was all into this stuff back then too..

I didn't say all high RMS handling claims were junk...I was stating that every kid with 50 bucks can buy a sub made in China with an outrageous RMS claim..and they think that claimed power handling makes it loud. They have no clue that wattage ratings on a speaker are for how much power the voice coil can handle...
I am assuming you didn't buy your sub at wal-mart or one of those "electronics extravaganzas" at the Holiday inn either ;)
