Umm yes and no. In general you are correct about outside of the vehicle. But just because you know how much air is entering through the front does not mean you know know where its going
Exactly, which is why I posed the question I did  It's probably pretty safe to assume that the pressure on the rear half of the hood is higher on the outside than inside though, especially with the transverse inline 5 in there. :)

you just cut the seal near the fuse box. nothing really to see.. it lowered my underhood temps on my 850

Well I didn't just cut it there...I left it in front of the cabin air intake vents and "double-stacked" the seal roughly perpendicular to the main seal on both sides to the back edge of the hood, to keep the yuck air out of the cabin...I kept the rain lip to minimize water in the hood area...I know this is not H's solution but it might be helpful for some looking for info on this topic...looking for found requested pic...

Unfortunately I don't have before and after temperature data. One of these days I'll install the intake temp sensor I bought a year ago to do some logging. I suspect it helps a good bit with under-hood temperature relief when idling and in slow moving rush hour traffic jams. Unsure about any other benefits.

That's great - but it's 9 pages starting with discussion (and many non-sensical replies) of the EGR system.

Did you have a particular post in mind that actually referenced hood venting? :D

This is really the most pertinent post in that thread I think :

summary: slater removed rubber gasket along windshield valance and measured a 10 degree IAT drop.

Circa 2002 Image. I have been saying this for years.... And do not remove the entire seal. Only the middle 14". The cut the plastic lip down and add round over.

In the next lesson AIT reduction via cold side graphite tubing

Its not about venting. Its about keeping hot air close to the turbo. If you draft from there it keeps hot air from the the radiator and turbo from spilling out into a wider area. Better to flow 2000cfm over 14" than 2000cfm over 40 inches in this case.

IE Air velocity > Air Volume.

Nick Choy used Evolve P2R hood vents on his 98 R:

For what its worth, in this thread he states that he can feel heat escaping after driving, but doesn't provide concrete data.
