So we've been debating buying another Volvo to split mileage between the cars we have. Our V70 is showroom condition so we want something a little less pristine so we can haul stuff in it, drive when its nasty outside and such and something the dogs wont mess up inside. We found a 1991 940 Turbo Wagon locally the guy is asking $2100 (which is sky high compared to every other one listed locally). We got him down to $1300 but it does need a bit of work. The A/C is out of comission, its full of refridgerant but the compressor refuses to turn on. I'm pretty sure it needs a compressor clutch or at least re shimmed. The other thing holding us back is the mileage, its got 235k on it but mostly highway miles. As for the mechanical aspect it runs geat, has a ton of power, and doesnt leak a drop of anything. The guy just put new struts on it along with brakes, tires are good, timing belt replaced 10k ago, also has new fuel injectors, trans fluid recently changed and differential fluid changed. Even has new turbo hoses. All in all its in solid shape, what you'd expect or even a little better for a 1991. What do you guys think about the possibility of buying it? Is it a good buy or should we keep hunting for something with lower mileage? Any problem areas to watch out for on these?

Wow thats a lot of miles! I may have to jump on it in that case. Are there any typical trouble spots to look out for on the 940s?

check out brickboard. faq section on 700/900 series. tons of info! just bought a 940 base sedan last week and dont regret it one bit! Runs like a champ and super easy to work on, mine has almost 210,000 and bought it for 1500. make sure all the window and power mirrors work. http://www.brickboar...94_940_sdn.html link that has good info. as well as this one: http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/
