These are the rear reduction, or proportioner valves, which are NLA as a unit. CVI sells a repair kit:

Wait, this is what it is? It doesnt look like the parts I feel like I'd need to fix this. Perhaps once I take it off and apart I'll see...

These have a piston inside, and the kit presumes the pistons are not completely gone. You'll need two kits, obviously. If you completely strike out with rebuilding them, I can check a source I have for known good ones.

VP auto has a diagram showing the whole system: http://www.websitefo...linkage_B20.asp

Check the rubber hoses, though. If it's been sitting for a time, these could have swelled inside and this would be a hell of a lot simpler to fix.

Yea, I'm going to need Pistons :( they sound bad when i was playing around with them. Could you looking into finding them for me? My next run at the car is next week (New Years) when i have my next day off... I really want to get it in the garage before the snow comes!

The hoses are 'new' well, as new as the rest of the restorations on the car. I have a set of rear hoses in the car, I'll check them next time, they seem ok though, but I'll see if they are swollen.

I'll see what I can find. In the meantime, you may want to get to know Don Thibault, who runs an 1800 restoration business on Cape Cod: http://www.p1800.com/. He can be expensive, but he often has things no one else can get.

Well, I wouldnt say struggle... I just shopped around, and decided to get a used pair and a few other misc. things from this guy in PA. except the valves were not capped, so I'm going to guess all these years of sitting and stuff with moisture and all that getting in there they are shot. Nicky wouldn't even attempt puttng them on the car...

I just need to get them from the guy up in MA. he wants $89/piece though <_<

Yes -- Don can be pricey, but he has things that are unobtainable anywhere else. These valves are the same in the 140s as well, and my friend who advises me on my 142 tells me that some people have been able to swap out more commonly available adjustable proportioner valves, but he could not recall which specific ones would work. If I can get some timely information on this, I'll let you know.

Totally sick. My family has one of those sitting deep in a garage. Awful condition in a million pieces, but just surface rust.

Who's paying for paint?
