^ yeah. Makes my Bwain hurt :arob: once you get towards the end....

I forgot that you want the spring locked fully extended, so rotating CC makes sense to prevent any movement, since CCW is the normal setup rotation when installing a t belt on a functional VVT.

How much fun is it to change the t-belt on a VVT?
Can't be as much fun as installing the intake manifold.

Once the timing has been set it isn't that bad....getting the timing set is the beyotch. After that you just wind the cams and on goes the belt!

Jeff that made my head explode.

Update: More pictures! I finally got my tranny put back together after the Gripper fiasco.

Pulled the case apart to start dismantling the differential
Posted Image

Posted Image

Belly of the beast.
Posted Image

All I had to do was pop out all of the m6 hex cap screws and pop the top like a can of pringles
Posted Image

As you can see, there are 8 plates here which caused the driver's side axle not to seat properly.
Posted Image

The bottom of the diff only had two plates that are thicker than the top plates.
Posted Image

John from Gripper UK sent me a care package with new thick/medium/thin working plates and a special "driver" (middle of the box) that's been machined thinner to accommodate the axle. Also got some new screws...oh joy.
Posted Image

Here are the medium vs. thin plates.
Posted Image Posted Image

The new setup requires 4 thin plates instead of the previous 2 medium plates. You change plates according to how harshly you want the differential to engage/disengage. Thin = softer/smoother engagement.
Posted Image

Posted Image

New plate setup for the top section...new on the left, old on the right. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to double up instead of alternating like the old setup, but this is according to the vague instructions that I received via email.
Posted Image

Load the plates and make sure they are oiled up.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Upper driver and plates all installed and oiled.
Posted Image

There is another bellville washer on the opposite side of the diff but I didn't need to remove it.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Torqued to 16ftlbs and ready to put the case back together after some cleaning and resealing :D
Posted Image

Brand new throw out bearing and slave installed.
Posted Image

I tested the fitment of the axles and everything looks perfect! I just need a place to pull the motor out to get this baby back in there. I'll be trying a different clutch at the same time so it will probably be a two week process unfortunately...but hey that gives me some time to scrub-a-dub dub the engine bay and put in a new steering rack and whatnot. It never ends

Good News! Great pics of the internals - helps to visualize what's going on in there. Shame they don't have an exploded parts view that illustrates the various plate setups - like the old Volvo schematic for the posi diffs....

Thanks, Hussein. I'll look through my emails as I did receive some blown out images...although the quality is poor, it's better than nothing.

Nice. Did they say what they're changing, and how much torque it'll be good for? I've been considering a Southbend for my clutch when work finally gets started on my project again. <_<

The new design has floating friction plates to "completely elliminate chatter" as I was told by John. Not sure of torque rating but I might go with a full face instead of a 6 puck this time to help smooth out engagement.

I'm sending the "old" clutch back for them to reuse and build off of.

No issues holding power but it's pretty chattery. It's just annoying in traffic because you have to rev it a bit to help smooth the engagement.

Kinda like the "8 puck" you sold me, that clutch makes the car just want to keep going lol. After a while you know how much you have to rev it to make it a smooth shift.
