Well, in case any didn't know or hasn't picked up on it yet, I've been going through wheels kind of a lot recently in the last month. I started to realize how much Volvo wheels suck and how there are very few good sized wheels, and also, the Volvo wheel market blows. So, I ventured away from Volvo wheels and do not plan to ever own a Volvo wheel again (except for the winter...maybe).

Right now I have some Columbas with the batman theme going on:

Posted Image

 Some fugly wheels/color combo.

And of course my Tethys (which are currently for sale and can't wait until they're gone so the money can be put to good use, come get them $625 shipped with Falken 452s)

Posted Image

Anyways, it all started when I bought these:

Audi Fat Fives 17x7.5 5x100 et32. I had all intentions of putting these on, but then as I thought about it, they were WAY too skinny.

Posted Image

Sold those and picked up some Audi A8 Monoblocks. 18x8 5x112 et43

Posted Image

Again, had every intention of running those. I liked them a lot and they were a good size. However, stopping there wasn't enough for me, so I listed them for sale just to see what I could get for them, well, good news came quick and I was offered a trade for some of these:

Carlsson 3/6s three piece Mercedes wheels. 18x8.5 et36 and 18x9.5 et36 5x112. These wheels would have fit amazingly, would have taken quite a bit of fender pulling and rolling, but would have worked.

Posted Image

So, my Monoblocks are currently on their way to Florida, and once the guy on the other end gets them, he's shipping these out to me. But, as much as I loved them, the thought of selling them was on my mind, so I listed them and already have a buyer lined up for when they get here, so chances are I'll take them out of the box to kiss them goodbye and that's it.

Being without wheels was messing with my mind, so back to Craigslist and eBay I went in search of the next set, and then I found my new wheels and the next day I went and picked these up. BBS RS. 5x120 17x9.5 et55. Got them CHEAP because the clear coat on the lips had dried out and started flaking. They are currently apart in my apartment where I have been cleaning them and they will get refinished. Plans for refinishing them consist of getting new inner barrels for two of them to run a staggered set of wheels in 17x8.5 and 17x9.5. The faces will get stripped and professionally re-done. Lips will be polished. And I will order new bolts. But these wheels are clean. One very minor bend that is barely noticeable and one very very minor spot of rash, otherwise they are gorgeous.

Posted Image

The cleanest one out of the four

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

And the barrels scrubbed down

Posted Image

Next step is getting some aircraft stripper and stripping the lips.

I'll keep this thread updated with the progress of the BBS RS's and any new wheels I pick up.

Thanks for looking.

And Craig, yes, I know.

 :P

 Definitely looking forward to the finished product.

The carlssons would have been more unique IMO but I can see the allure of the 17s. Are you planning on having the centers redrilled or just adapting?

Best of luck with the project!

Yeah, the Carlssons would have been way more unique, but they were sale ready and the RSs are not, and I needed to sell at least one of them right away. And I'm going to run adapters for the RSs, because of the offset, if I re-drilled them I would still need to get huge spacers, so might as well get adapters. And I worry that the redrill would hurt their re-sale value...which is what this is pretty much all about. ;)

Too bad none of those were on your car. I would love to see Carlssons and monoblocks mounted on 850.
RS is a nice choice. Very classy.
Are you gonna keep centers gold?

Yeah, the Carlssons and Monoblocks would have looked pretty nice on the 850, however, this is all about making a few bucks, and the opportunity was there to profit on the wheels, so they went. ;)
And no, the centers will not stay gold. Too many people wanting bronze or gold wheels around here to keep them gold.

I think the RSs would be hideous without them.

With a black car you have whole spectrum to choose from. Can't wait to see those mounted.
Hurry up NAO :)

Yeah, the black car helps. I already have in mind what I'm going to do for them. Just have to sell some wheels to make it happen.

Suspension is currently Koni DIY coilovers in front and cut ipd springs, but before the wheels go on I will be doing rear DIY coilovers too, so it will be on full coilovers.

Picked up some aircraft stripper so tomorrow night I'll start stripping the lips. And picked up five different grits of sandpaper to start the polishing process. Should be able to post up some pics tomorrow night.

It's just awesome, I never thought I would be refinishing a set of BBS RSs, so this whole process is really fun for me. :)

Stripping them was kind of a PITA. Took one can of aircraft stripper to do three wheels. So I'll have to get a second can to do the last lip and I'm debating whether or not to strip and polish the center caps or paint those.
