My favorite was Katherine's reply when I pointed out there was a tiny bit of corrosion still on the edge of one of the faces.

Looks awesome, Gabe!

Thanks guys for the compliments! I can't wait to get them on the car. Gets me all giddy. Once adapters get here I'll test fit them. Hopefully the adapters will be where I want them.

Wheels look outstanding. Very nice job. Only thing I question is putting silicone on the surfaces in which you are sealing. I have always been told to never put silicone between surfaces. Bolt them together, put down 1 even layer where everything meets then wait for it to cure then apply a second coat. I have never had any leaking problems with wheels I have done. GE Silicone II is what I use.

Well, everyone has their method. This is the way my friend showed who has owned several sets of RSs and LMs and he puts them together this way every time. ;)

Like I discussed on facebook. I put down a bead on each mating surface installed, torqued down, retorqued, smoothed out and sealed each seam, let dry, went back and put a huge bead sealing lip to barrel. They're fine.

If the wheels weren't supposed to have some sealant on the mating surfaces, I don't think they would come that way from BBS.

Interesting. I was unaware that they had sealant on the mating surfaces from the factory. Like you said, everyone has a method they have come to trust over time. What did you torque to 35-40 lbs?

Yes, mating surfaces come with sealant on them. Read all the DIYs, a big part of them is cleaning off the factory sealant from the mating surfaces, which covers the entire surface making it completely obvious that the sealant was on the surface before the wheel was put together.

35-40lbs? Where the hell did you read that? No. Not even close. BBS RS bolts are about 20ft lbs. I found a torque setting on my drill that was approx 20 ft lbs and used that. My friend also said that 15 lbs is enough.

Now that I think about it that is a little high, but I have heard of people torquing from as low as 12 and as high as 40.

So have I. My friend suggested 15 ft lbs, that's what he used on his. I found the setting on my drill that was slightly higher than 15, so that's what I went with.

I can guarantee you will get "OMG did you see that volvo on the prima donnas?" haha. They do look great, though. Very nice work. It takes a lot more time to correctly refinish and rebuild a set of wheels than people think.

Yeah, once school calms down I'll try to find another set of RS to refinish. *cough* Ian *cough*

Lol. If you find a set of RSs with decent specs, lets talk.

Finding RS with decent specs that are cheap are hard to find, which is why the ones I refinish are shitty specs. i.e. 16s. But perfect for all of those VW kids and their tiny ass cars.
