Looking forward to seeing these re assembled and installed on your car. I have always loved this classic BBS mesh style of rim. I wanted a set of Style 5's on my car but never had the desire/time to refinish them.

Thanks. Centers are going out to get stripped and for paint hopefully this week.

If the lips are already really smooth, and semi shiny, the white rouge will suffice. However, go w/ the black emery compound, and then the white rouge and you'll be in really good shape. Make sure you use the right pads for each type of compound for the proper cut. Also, prepare to have parts fly across the room and it also makes a huge mess. :D

They're real smooth and have a good shine to them, they're just not mirrored yet. Could you recommend a pad for each type of polish? And I'll be doing all of the polishing in my garage instead of my apartment.

And these got in today. :D :D :D :D :D All I did was open the boxes to look at them. The new owner is picking them up on Friday.

Thanks. I'm just trying to get through these next couple days (midterm tomorrow and paper due on Wednesday), but all I want to do is try out my new buffer and get some shine on these bolts/lips. :D

By far, the biggest PITA so far, stripping and sanding these center caps. The flat part of the caps were not machined like the lips are or the non-flat parts on the caps. They were painted with an intense gray paint, then sprayed with some type of chrome paint, but they took probably four or five coats of paint stripper to get most of the paint off and then so much sanding. But I can't wait to get them to the buffer and see them shine up. :)

And shipping out one of my barrels today to get custom 17x7 barrels made to replace these 17x8 barrels. I need to lose one inch off of the wheel in order for it to fit our tiny ass fenders, and that's with bare minimum inner clearance. My wheel wells will be completely filled from strut to fender edge with wheel/tire.

The Carlssons? Nah, don't feel like going through all of the work to get a jack under the car when I'm not keeping them. ;)

The joys of refurbing wheels. :D The end results are worth the efforts though. I've got a set of Southern Ways Epsilons waiting for a refurb in the shed, the lips look like they've got several layers of clear coat on them.. :(

BTW, I'd tie a string loosley around the center caps and then tie the other end to the table or bench or whatever you're working off of so when they catch and go flying, they don't bounce off the floor and get dented.. Another protip, old socks on your hands work really well when polishing on the buffer, shit gets hot as hell...

As for your question about wheel type/polish type, see this:

Yeah, I'm trying to find another set of RSs to refinish, well, any 3 piece for that matter, missed out on a set of BBS RC090 and RSs this weekend that would have been PERFECT to refinish. :(

I wish I would have used this aircraft stripper stuff in a can instead of the aerosol, the clear coat literally fell off of the bolts when I used that stuff, but 3 coats of clear coat sounds like it will be a huge PITA.

Thanks for the tip with the string! That makes sense, I wouldn't have even thought about that. And I've got some mechanics gloves that I'm going to wear probably, maybe I'll get new ones before I start since the ones I have now are dirty.

Gloves were too bulky for me, I couldn't get a good feel on the item I was polishing and kept flinging them across the garage, so I switched to nothing and burned the pissed out of my fingers, eventually moving to the socks that worked well.

The aircraft stripper is awesome stuff.

didn't see that before, thanks. Looks like the buffer I got:

Posted Image

Comes with a spiral and loose buffing wheel, so that will be perfect. Spiral for the black emery and then loose for the white rouge. Looking forward to start buffing/polishing. :D :D :D :D

I have some nitrile gloves too, probably give those a shot, I don't know how much heat they'll dissipate, but should be decent.

I also got a buffing/polishing kit that comes with several drill mounted buffing/polishing wheels/cones/etc. If I can't get a great polish on the bolts with this, I'll drill holes in a cardboard box, stick the bolts in there, and then go at it with the drill mounted polishers.

I polished every one of the bolts on the gottis on the buffing motor. You won't have any issues. The drill mounted kits blow dicks.

Any recommendations of what I could soak the bolts in to get a pre polish clean? I hear some people saying they soak them in Diet Coke. Some of them look pretty rough. Also thinking of doing a walnut shell media in the tumbler before I polish them.

OK, so I'm not sure which way I should go about polishing my bolts.

Here are my bolts after the round in the vibrator/tumbler:

Posted Image

My thoughts is that I'm not sure if they were at one time polished or not, some of them look like maybe they are, but some of them don't. . My options are to go ahead go right to the buffing wheel with them using a black emery followed by a white rouge.

This thread here, about half way down, shows someone who used a corn husk media with a polishing additive. His bolts turned out amazing, but they look like they were already pretty polished before he started.

http://www.wheel-who...t=1920&start=60

Maybe I'll give the buffer/polishing wheel a shot and if they don't clean up enough, I'll get a corn husk media.
