 The antenna in my '94 Volvo 850 was working perfectly, until it had to be towed to a garage. For the past several years, it will click when rising and and shutting off from the radio on/off button. You can clearly hear the teeth/gears clicking, and there is some slack in the height. But it still works.

Somewhere during that garage period, someone might have jammed the antenna.

Can it be restored or repaired, or should I leave well enough alone?

Any input from the experts would be appreciated.

THANX!

That clicking is just a clutch - No biggie.
The garage trip may well be mere coincidence.

Try lubing the antenna mast. It's probably just sticking.
Fold up a paper towel, wrap it arount the mast and hit it
with some TriFlow or other lube. Apply liberally with the
towel and run it up and down a few times.
It's a good idea to do this a few times a year anyway
to keep it working smoothly.

If it still won't fully extend, give it some help and look for
bent sections that might be hanging it up. If that doesn't work,
you can always replace the mast. Takes about 5 minutes.
