What is the safe length of the M12 x 1.75 lug bolts for 20mm H&R spacers?

I'm running 15mm H&R spacers with the supplied H&R lug bolts. Are these long enough to safely use with 20mm spacers?

Thanks.

Thanks. I tried it and it feels like the H&R lug bolt doesn't screw in more than 3 full turns - feels kinda unsafe to me.

3 Turns? That's not enough, you need longer bolts. This is not safe!!

Three turns by hand or by wrench? Mine are hard to thread in by hand, but they turn much more once I use a wrench.

Unless someone sold me longer lugs with my 15mm spacers, then they are the same. I guess it's possible I was sold longer lugs, though.

Adam you and I had the same lugs for our 15's and 20's (I'm sure this is what you are referencing), I bought mine new and they came with that size from H&R... now you have em :) and I don't have any fender liner problems anymore and now your happy as well haha

Ignore Adam. His info is bad here. And numbers of turns depends on the pitch. Yes know we are talking same pitch here, but rather give you an axiom that applies everywhere. BTW Adam, 3 turns with the wrench is the same as three turns with your hand.

With 3 turns on this pitch, you are almost close to enough. But 3 turns is actually closer to 4 because of the fact the first thread engagement is a partial interface. Better rule is you want the diameter of the bolt worth of engagement. After there you gain very very little. So on these you want 12mm of engagement. From memory thats between 5 and 6 threads.

I'm not retarded. The reason I asked is because I am not able to turn all of my extended lugs by hand. Some of them require a wrench/socket to screw down. I wanted to make sure he actually tried to tighten them using a wrench before deciding they weren't long enough.

Also, if I'm wrong you should email iPd and tell them they aren't selling the correct lug bolts. The 15mm and 20mm spacers come with the same length bolts.

You assume a lot for a lawyer. Why is it you assume that the 20mm spacers use the same bolts as 15mm. Maybe the 15mm spacers use the same as the 20 :P

I have not seen them, but I like to think IPD spec'ed the bolts based on the 20mm spacers. In which case they will work fine on 15mm, 5mm, hell even no spacers.

Just curious if you guys have actually measured the length of the wheel bolt shank & compared it to the stock bolt?

Pics are always good. :D It would help end the speculation.

The longer bolts should be at least 15mm longer than a stock bolt, 20mm if they are intended to cover all applications.....

That would help if this was a sales questions and not an engineering question. For what its worth I know H&R has 44mm of grip on the bolts they sell with their 20mm kit. I'll dig around and see if I have any stock bolts later.

I was really directing it at the others - I was told by one of the aftermarket wheelbolt vendors that 6 turns (about 1/2") is considered safe inserted depth - on stock studs, that pretty much means 1/4 spacers are as far as you can safely go, I think they are 27-30mm shank.

With the Motegi's I bought, the 'tuner' lugs are actually a couple of mil shorter shank, and with the 4mm spacers, I don't get 6 turns when torqued to spec. I still haven't found a vendor that carries 35+mm shank 12x1.75mm 'tuner' lugs.

Why would you want to run spacers instead of adapters? Min size for adapters is 15 or 17 mm right

For me? If so, I was considering that - but couldn't find ones that also came with 'tuner' nuts. I need to be able to still mount stock Volvo pegs, so I would also need stock seat angle nuts for them as well.....

not directed at you per se.

The problem is 12x1.75 isn't that common, 12x1.5 however you can find nearly any bolt your heart desires. Before I mess with spacers I'll be converting to lugs for sure.
