We just got back from the track and it seems that the Quaife in my buddies car (BlackT5m) has locked up. Kinda like a welded diff.

Anybody ever heard of anything like that happening?

Sounds like a busted ring. One of the main reasons I like plate diffs. Does it drive straight ok?

From what I've heard, good luck attaining kind of any warranty.

I hope it turns out to be something minor.

Can you rebuild Quaife differentials?

Was it broken in?
Have you tried diving in a figure 8 to unlock it?
Are you running a slip addative in your oil?
Have you checked CVs and shafts for damage?

The Diff has over 30k miles on it so I don't think that would be the problem. No slip additive since it isn't needed. CV shafts seem to be alright because when both front wheels are off the ground they rotate fine. If one wheel is on the ground and the other is up you can't spin the wheel that's up. I left the car at Justus's shop so he's gonna try driving it in a fig 8.
It happened at the drag strip

It sounds like it is just locked up. Usually if you break/chip the spider you also get clicking even straight, depending on where/what angle the debris is lodged at. I know its not called for but I would still use an addative or oil with a friction modifier in it.

I'll drive it tomorrow and check it out.

This was the run we believe it happened.

It seems when he got out of water box one wheel caught traction the other one sounded like it was still spinning (you could hear it). Hard to see on the video.

^^
Thats why I asked if you were sure the CVs and shafts were good. Usually this is what kills them, but it is usually due to something else snapping. Gears themselves do let go though.

Circles, 8's and reverse 'launch' didn't do anything. Probably going to remove both axles and take a peek inside.
