Obama can debate. You may not like him, but he isn't stupid.
Mitt can debate. He ain't stupid either.
Cain is hit or miss. When cornered on economics he seems to fall back on his 9-9-9 plan which isn't going to work anyway. Foreign policy he draws a blank or has no idea what he is talking about. Other topics he seems to do well with.
Perry is clueless. He looks like the idealized version of an American president, but as soon as he opens his mouth you find out he isn't that bright.
Bachmann is a slightly brighter version of Palin. She can sometimes make sense, but three minutes later will put her foot in her mouth.
Ron Paul is a smart guy, but his ideas are too radical even for the Tea Party, and most Republicans know he would never win.

The rest are just bit players at this point.

I am not sure why the media are still following Palin. Her psuedo campaign was simply to money because she knew back in June she wasn't going to run. Now all that money is her's to do whatever she wants with.
She is the female version of Perry. I liken her to a doll from the 70s. You pull the string and she spouts out conservative talking points. Ask her a question and the answer usually has nothing to do with the question you asked.

Newt is a smart man. His biggest drawback with conservatives is his past personal life. Being on your third wife after cheating on the first two doesn't sit well with them. Even this isn't that bad apparently since most seem to be ignoring Cain's past. Newt would be doing a lot better if he didn't start out his campaign as a book tour for his wife to sell more copies.

RP strikes me as the only candidate up there who actually believes in what he says and will stick by it even if it means losing votes. That and he would actually do something about the power lobbying groups have in the government, which is something every American decries but everything goes on as usual.
