I've been working on this for a while with my buddies over at Chassis Dynamics here in CT. It utilizes any of the standard 302mm rotors, a custom bracket, and a slim Wilwood 4 piston booted caliper.

It takes about 30 seconds to change pads on these suckers ;)

The wheels we have test fitted these with include:

17" Volans: no spacer required

16" Solar: 5mm spacer required

15" Draco: 15mm spacer required

15" Aries: 15mm spacer required

15" rear wheel drive offset steel wheel: 15mm spacer required

With all of the recent builds going on this seemed like a perfect kit. We all want better brakes, and the 13" R rotor makes for an awesome base to stick a larger caliper on but you have to factor in the price of a 17" wheel and tire combo as well and sometimes a spacer. 17" is the smallest you can go, which means you're also buying snow tires if you live in an area that experiences what some call "winter".

The idea behind this kit is that you can get superior stopping power over the oem Volvo caliper, yet you can keep the wheels you currently have on the car. For anyone that goes to a drag strip, 17" wheels are a joke. You need a smaller diameter wheel for drag radials or drag slicks. In addition, for anybody that does autox, you might want to change your pads over if/when you put on your autox wheel/tire combo. Changing the pads literally takes 30 seconds or less. We are working on a video to demonstrate pad replacement.

We are currently waiting on the second bracket to me machined and will be testing these asap so stay tuned!

I like where this is going. I have been holding off on a BBK due to having 16" wheels for snow tires.

Nice work Ben! Good to see it's close to fruition!

Do they have a deeper/taller pad that will pickup that inner area, or are you thinking it will be sufficient as is?

Thanks Hussein!

That's the only downfall about this kit : we don't get a full sweep of the burn path of the rotor. Regardless, it will still work much better than the stock caliper according to the total area of the pistons. It will also dissipate heat more effectively due to pad composition and the caliper being made of all-you-mineum.

What's the target price? I'm not really seeing any huge benifits of these w/ the smaller rotors + smaller burn path, only upside being clamping force. It seems to me it'll be negligible. I'm sure it'll stop fine, but will it be any better than the oem girling setup? Have you done any stopping test w/ the oem setup to compare with this kit once installed? I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, and think the quality of the work done is fantastic, I'm just not seeing this as a worthwile investment, cost of kit + effectivity of upgrade.

Greg,

We are working on the pricing and trying to get the best deal we can. As far as testing goes I have another car with a 302mm kit that I will be doing comparison tests against with 60mph-0mph as well as 100mph-0mph. Wilwood uses proprietary pads as far as I know so you'll have to choose from their choice of compositions. For the test car, we will use off the shelf performance pads (akebono, mintex, oem blue box, etc.) The only way to find out if they're better or not is to test!

Ben,

Glad to see the work in progress, I'm sure it will be a very nice set up over 302 with volvo carier style calipers. Can't wait for you to get them on the car and see what they can do.

It look great. Full sweep of the rotor by the pad would be so much better.

This BBk kit is a fantastic idea. You will definitely sell a lot of them being that you do not need to replace your wheels. If anything, you just need a spacer.

Unfortunately this is best that we can do as far as a burn path. Although you're missing a bit of the rotor, it isn't that much. But as I said above, the only way to prove otherwise is to test...and test...and test :)

If you guys can contact H&R about hub and wheel centric spacers/extended lug nuts that'd be awesome!

Matter of fact, I can probably steal a wheel from my buddy Bobby because his coupe is at the body shop and I'll just trade him a wheel for a day. I might have access to some Tritons if Travis is cool with parting with one as well for r&d.

That's our next step Neu! I have a set of braided lines that are brand new for oem calipers. We'll use those to get the proper length. The only issue we have is that with the stock calipers, the line threads into the caliper at a 45*ish angle where with the Wilwood caipers it goes in perpendicular ( 90* ). I'd like to find a 45* swivel 1/8th npt hydraulic fitting to use on the caliper side. The rest should be simple.
