Hello all
I haven't owned a 240 in a few years, so I'm a bit rusty (no pun intended). I've been called to duty on a friend's wagon, and I'm not quite sure where to start. I think my question is fairly basic though, and the problem is probably nothing unique to this car.
So my friend has a '91 245 SE, and she could not get it started the other day. She said that she experienced some hesitation once during a short trip to the gas station; after she got the tank filled, she could not get the car started again (it would crank, but not turn over).
When I went over there to see what was going on, I tried starting it first to confirm what she had said, and it did crank (but not turnover). I gave it a little bit of gas on the second attempt, and it started--it seemed ready to stall once it did start, so I tapped the gas pedal again, and it stabilized. We drove it around right after, and it gave me no problems in terms of hesitation and such. It ran just like your typical 240.
This afternoon, she had the same problem apparently. She said she tried giving it gas, but that did not work. One possibility is that she may have flooded the engine. Either way, I'm trying to figure out what to check first, because I'm headed over there tomorrow to see what may be going on. Could this feasibly be a fuel or fuel/air mixture problem? I was thinking clogged fuel filter, dying fuel pump, or the infamous air mass meter? In all of these cases, what steps should I take to rule anything out? I'm pretty solid on repairing things, but suck on diagnosing ...
Thanks for any help!

Sounds like fuel as you said and you could start with the obvious. Fuel filter, and assure the injectors are not leaking down. Sounds like you have a good background to check the basics and report back. From what you gave us it could be almost anything.

forehead slapper of the day: fuse number 6 (fuel injection system) was loose--that's all that it was.
