Hi everybody,
iam new to this forum and i recently bought a 855 t5.
it gets a "stage 0" tuning ;) and runs very good since then.
but now, i have oil in the coolant.
what are the possibilities for this failure?
maybe radiator have an oil leak?
or head gasket? but if the head gasket is broken, i think it would be water in the oil circulation.
only the oil smells a litte bit after gasoline!
car has covered 193000km.

(sorry for my english, i hope u can understand what i mean)

regards
egger

Hi Egger, Your problem could be a few different things, ... head gasket....transmission fluid cooler lines if they tun through the rad....cracked head.....cracked block.

Need more information like,
are you losing/burning oil?
are you losing water?
are you getting blue or white smoke from the tail pipe when driving?
is there water in the oil?
is your oil clean or milky looking?
have you taken a compression test?
what do your sparkplugs look like?
is your car overheating?

Most likely a head gasket but I would check everything else before tearing anything apart..............................TIM

Hello Egger, Wilcomen to Volvospeed!!!
Try the compression test first, I guess your car is Manual ( mostly in Europe are) so check the engine oil line that go on the radiator on passenger side!
Is very rare that the line broke inside but sometime happen . Any bubble/boiling sound after you drive the car, how long you drive the car daily ( 4km--->50km/day) ??
Do a flush of the coolant and check again.

hey, i will check that oil line.
no bubbling sounds after driving the car.
mostly i drive it in city with not much km. about 15km per day. that could be the reason for little fuel in oil circulation.
and yes it is a manual!

Yes, read this: http://volvospeed.co...ustom-radiator/
You will find something similar to this also in Europe specially in Germany.

Are you building high pressure in the reservoir? Sometimes a headgasket can pass compression(which can include oil) into the water jacket. If your seeing high pressure when you pull the cap it s sign.

there is much oil in the coolant, it is a emulsion now.
this weekend i had no time to check it... must do this next weekend.
hopefully the headgasket is ok.

My vote is for the rad. as it has let go internally and exchanged the oil into the coolant.

a compression check will rule the head gasket out.

It sounds like the engine oil cooler that is built into the radiator is leaking oil into the coolant. Engine running the oil is 20-60 psi and the radiator when really hot is maybe 17 psi so the oil gets pushed into the coolant.

There is a quick test for a bad head gasket where they use a tester that gets wedged into the coolant tank neck and the fluid changes color if any hydrocarbon (exhasut gas) is detected. See attached picture.

Hi,
finally i checked the radiator and result is, that this thing is broken.
i pulled the oil lines from passenger side off and closed the lower oil line.
On the upper oil line, i gave it air preissure.
Result was a bubbling noise and bubbles in the coolant reservoir!
So its proven that the radiator is broken.
Thanks everybody for help!!

regards
Egger
