Well, near St Thomas anyway. I've been to his place, a few years ago now. Its in the country. It was a cool experience watching him pull my blown turbo apart and discuss it forensically as he went along. I understood exactly why it failed after that. Its amazing what damage a tiny piece of grit in the oil can do, if the timing and placement are just right. Carnage.

o i'm not hating the custom stuff, cherry is probably the only place i would buy a turbo from anyway, great local guy! i mean how much more can u squeeze out of a 16t? i would have saved the 700 (if thats even he price) and honestly gone to a precision or a garett. in my eyes thats not at all worth it on a 16T if it was a kkk24 with some work on it ok i could justify it but this is a 16T... i just bought my 4th one for 150$

Well....I guess I don't know the diff. A 16t is a step up for me from what I had, and anything I've had or heard about from Herman has been brilliant. Its what he recommended for what I wanted to do, and being who he is, I trust his opinion. The kkk24 option didn't even come up in the lengthy discussion we had. Neither did garrett. We talked about 18, 19, 20T, and this was the way to go for me. Bear in mind it had to be direct bolt on, with no exhaust or other mods of any kind. No budget for that right now, I'll read up on what a kkk24 is. Thanks for the tip.

well hey if you like that by all means go for it. Thats no issue its all yours. You mentioned all volvo turbos so i guess the custom route wouldnt bave been an option like a garrett or precision. Is it a stock bottom end?

Stock bottom end, we rebuilt the head a year ago. Its all running well.... Oh how I'd live to go to a 3" exhaust, 19t, etc etc. we can all dream, right?

Its in. With white injectors and my upsolute tune, it's definitely a nice step up. Bigger exhaust and a green tune is probably next, in the spring. That is all.

Herman's an awesome guy and he builds great turbos!

He's pricey but at least he explains all of his costs thoroughly, shows you exactly what he did, tells you exactly how balanced he got it, how much material he had to take off the wheel, all the modifications and parts he replaced. Really gives you the piece of mind to know it's a better turbo than when Mitsu shipped it to Volvo 14 years ago.

Not to mention if he's not busy he'll show you all the cool turbos he's working on!
