Looking for some direction as to what brand to shoot for and what to stay away from. Lowes has a some great deals on Whirlpool and Samsung refrigerators this week, but not sure of their quality. Sears has good deals on their Kenmore brand as well, but I currently have kenmore that I'm not so impressed with. Any insight?

I have a Samsung with dual compressors and bottom freezer. We bought it 8 yrs ago and have had zero issues with it. It has 2 separate compressor systems for fridge and freezer. temp stays rock solid. it is whisper quiet..I don't think I have ever heard it running...it has survived three moves.. I think it was @ $1100.. but Best Buy screwed up and we wound up getting it for $750..Very happy with it..

100% frost and moisture free as well..

What ever you get just make sure the idiots delivering your $1000 fridge don't lay it down on it's back and then immediately plug it in, or you'll be warranty-ing out the compressor.

(Best Buy did this to me about 5 years ago)

Built in or what what? How much use will it see? My kitchen fridges are always Sub-zero and I am very happy with them. They will churn out ice all day and do not swing in temp when you do not have them as full as they should be. My storage room I have had both GE and Kitchenaid and actually prefer kitchen aid. That said, both are low duty and suck if you turn over contents alot or need a lot of ice.

I wanted to get in with Sub-Zero before Chuck, but oh well. They're great fridges, can't go wrong with them.

Sounds identical to mine...I got mine roughly around the same time too. Maybe 7 yrs ago, but it has been awesome! Would buy another Samsung in a heartbeat.

Parents have a Sub-zero and that thing is no joke. No problems with it since we installed it in 2001.

I helped my rents fridge shop a few yrs ago. They had a sub zero installed in the 80's up until a few years back. Big $ to have it repaired but it lasted

They ended up with a side by side Kitchen Aid

My place with "high end" appliances () has a kenmore fridge, its a piece of crap IMO

My parents have a Kenmore that has been problem free for the past 7 years or so (can't remember exactly when it was purchased). Bottom freezer with french doors. It cranks out ice, it's very easy to clean, holds a rock solid temperature and I can't hear the compressor running.

Similar to this model on their website.

I've been looking at new fridges too. I've been reading lot of bad reviews on Kenmore lately, and good ones on LG and Samsung. At my old apartment I got a brand new Kenmore 28sq ft side by side, and the freezer fan died twice within a 5 year period, and was $200-$100 to repleace. My folks have a new (less then a year old) french door Kenmore stainless look (is just polished and coated steel) and the compressor vibrators like hell every time it runs. IIRC Kenmore, Whirlpool and maybe GE or Fridgedaire are all the same just rebadged differently...

Sub-Zeros are awesome, the compressor on top makes them have huge space, but considering you could buy a used car for the price of one new side by side is a bit over the top. I do see them used on CL for free or cheap sometimes.

My issue is that the previous owner of my house redid the kitchen around a 18sq-ft top freezer fridge. It's a 5 year old Fridgedaire and the icemaker stopped working, and I'm tired of bending over to get stuff out of the fridge. Unfortunately I can't step up to any thing bigger then 20sq-ft due to the cabinet opening. If I could get anything I wanted I'd get the biggest side by side or french door with water/ice in the door that I could fit in that narrow opening or a single door Sub-Zero. Luckily I have a huge beer fridge with water and Ice in the Man Cave to take the overflow of the small kitchen fridge.

What I put on TB ...

If I had the money.

With that being said we got a Kitchen-Aid three months ago, really like it.

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

MS instead of android I guess.. :P

We have had a Whirlpool fridge-freezer for a long time now which has an operating display panel in front of the ice and water machine just above the opening where you can place the cups. We didn't use the ice machine that much and eventualy the display panel went dead because somehow ice came inside the panel. Took a very long time to get the panel replaced.
