Hey guys quick question. I am going to replace the head liner in my wagon. I can get everything off except the ring around the sunroof. I had a parts car and tried to remove it to figure it out before attacking my car and couldn't figure it out with out breaking it. is there something i am missing? are there special clips on it or something.

thanks for all the help, I need to replace the sagging head liner.

I just did one of these things with out breaking it.

Start from the front. The party that goes from driver side to passenger side near the mirror.

Open the sunroof

You slide it back while lifting it up. From the open sunroof side looking into the car. There are three little tabs that hook onto the trim.

If you tug on this trim and pull towards the rear of the car you can feel where the little tabs are that hook onto this trim. Iirc there is one inn the middle and one on each sides.

Once these are off, I bent the front enough to go into the car and and proceeded on the sides.

The rear I could not get off so I took the headliner and slide it back off the trim ring then I removed the trim ring.

Ive done about 20 and THAT is one of the MOST important steps...
Literally just ROLL it up and towards the center and it will come out with ease. Start with front and the rest is easy to see.

To bad your not local, could bang that out in under a minute. Ask Mattxxl, he was there ;)

I am just going to take my time with it, I tried to take it off of the parts car I have and it literally broke in 4 places. I know there is a repair for this, I think its plastic weld i think someone used. I have to look it up again just in case. cause i have a feeling a new one from the dealer is going to be ridiculously expensive.

For an 850 you cannot get them
They are as I was told 2 years ago (on intergalactic back order)
and the 70 series at that time, there were only 20 left in the US...

Your best bet if you cannot get it out, is to hit up a s70 and remove that models trim as it is an upgrade :)

Id help you out, but the shipping would be hard... price to ship + the risk of it breaking. PM sent

This thread on SS was helpful for me. Just adds a little more detail to Rob and Steve's descriptions of how it's done.
