I'm curious if anyone here has put in there 850/x70 driver and passenger seats that aren't Volvo. I thought I read somewhere that someone tried to put in seats from a WRX, or Saab. I know all seats could probably be custom fit into our cars just like a lot of other things we custom fit with our vehicles. But I figured maybe someone found a nice easy 4 bolts out and 4 bolts in seat swap?

Why in hell would you want to?
Volvo has THE most comfortable car seats in the world.

My seats are shot to shit and I found a pair of WRX seats for a steal (and started a thread about it). Don't know if they would work, but that thread was just testing the waters. If you can fab up seat rails and take simple measurements, swapping seats shouldn't be an issue.

But I have no idea what drops in, if anything.

I have to say, Jim has a point. Volvo seats rock, I've never found anything more comfortable.

But it's up to you, since it's your car.

Volvo seats are comfy, but also 7,000 lbs each. Mine are long gone and a much more comfy set of Brides sit in their location. No power and no heat; but I could care less because I don't throw my back out now if they need to be removed...lol

I get by with non-power non-heat OEM seats... Volvo does make one comfy seat and I noticed that, oddly enough, the non-power seat has great range of adjustment and can get into more positions than the power seat will. Only other OEM seats I've loved were my friend's Jetta's, but VW sourced them from recaro.

If I were going to the trouble of replacing seats, I'd go for something aftermarket, like EVL's brides or some such. Really doubt there's any direct drop ins from other manufacturers as they all love to use random bolt spacing on basically every model, so you'd be playing russian seat roulette.

I was thinking of adapting a 700 series seat into my 850, since the coverings are so shot...

Volvo seats are VERY comfortable and they do not weigh any more than a any other power seat. The newer GM seats I can barely get out of the cars anymore! Recaro seats are probally just as comfortable, but also expensive and the bolster wear down quick. The Older Recaro Sport seats no longer have parts available. Power seats at the local yard are 18.99. I would leave the stock in for safety concerns too.

Oh guys I am absolutely not bashing VO seats by any means I have owned 4 volvos and one vw and my dub had recaros. With that said Volvo is also very expensive I'm just curious to see what other people do if it came down to having to get different seats on a budget. I'm in college and money is tight that's all but thankyou for the input gentlemen keep the ideas coming please.

I have an S40 but made a set of WRX seats fit, pretty much anything will fit in any car with a bit of effort:

Volvo seats may be comfortable, but they SUCK in the twisty stuff, and these WRX seats are amazingly comfortable as well as supportive...

depends what you want out of the seat really

Well, sure the volvo seats are comfy, no doubt about it.. but I wouldn't think for a minute to throw them away for saab 9000 aero seats... Yes, they are huge and heavy.
But, if it fits into a saab 900 it should also fit to a 8 series volvo http://i22.photobuck...PG/IMG_9575.jpg

Alex user ID "byostrov" or something like that, had TSX seats in his 850. He got out of the volvo game some time ago so I'm not sure if he is on here any more. but I'll try to find some pix

looked good and matched the interior colors very well. only issue he had was getting the power to work on them (power seats)
