Would it work if I carefully cut a hole into a standard dash pad to install my dash speaker? Looks like nothing actually connects to the dash pad itself but I just wanted to make sure.

There's a molded, strenghtened recess in the dash opening

Wait, whut? Why don't you just remove the stock tweeter and replace it with a new tweeter?

Kind of looks like shit, but gets the job done and the sound is awesome.

I think he means the center channel, but I'm not sure. There'd really be no way to do it, the trim sits in a recessed area of the vinyl.

Definitely try to scout out a Dolby dash pad, "Tom." on SwedeSpeed is selling a Charcoal and Tan one in the FWD classifieds.

I had this idea when I first acquired the coupe. It was missing the center speaker because the previous owner did a swap from tan to charcoal and couldn't find a dash pad with hole in charcoal.

After comparing the structure of the two dash pads (I sourced a dash with center hole from Erie Vovo) there's no way you could do this properly without compromising both the integrity of the dash and the cosmetic result. Jim is spot on here.

It's not a big job, hour at the most to swap upper dashboards
My guy does it in half hour!

Yeah I pulled one off at the JY yesterday for practice, it's not that bad you're right.

I'm trying to swap to a charcoal interior, hence me asking.

I have a C70 charcoal center speaker dash pad here....will let it go for less than what Erie will charge too

Depends on how good you are cutting. I did this and work well for me, the result is almost the same with the one with the hole. Just take your time and shave the two plastic clips that go under the dash in the front of the speaker.
