Just was wondering if anyone from the minneapolis area would have a chance to help me diagnose what happend to my 850 last night.

Last night was driving fine and then the turbo went psycho on me a overboosted like crazy. I shortly thereafter pulled over and heard a ticking/tapping sound which was decently loud. Let the car sit for about an hour and then restarted sound was there. Got it home and the noise wasnt as bad. When the engine revs tapping increases and when the throttle was released no tapping.

Thanks!

Hate to say it but this sounds like drivetrain failure. Either bent valve or rod.

Did you check your oil level? I know it sounds dumb, but mine ticks when its kinda low, maybe the overboost was due to a leak or something and now you're low on oil? Just thinking outloud...

Oil level was good, no leaks that the shop could find when going through everything. Said there was a noise coming from the top of the engine. And to myself there does not appear to be any noise there any longer.

Check your vacuum lines from your bcs/tcv. Overboost might have been caused by a bad line going to your waste gate.

With stu on this. Bent rod is my vote. Especially that the tapping goes away for a second when you let off the throttle.

Sorry bump dead thread. Mobile app fail
