I recently crashed my 96 855 in a crash in the rain (no injuries!) so I am looking for another vehicle.
I saw this for sale today:
2001 Volvo V70
115K
asking $3500
Midnight Blue Exterior and Black Interior--. Both in Very Good Condition
Needs Work...Have 2 Mechanics diagnosis: Turbo Needs Replacement
Otherwise runs great.
I haven't called about the car yet, and when/if I do then I will ask all of the usual questions about service records etc, but I have a couple questions for this forum as a post-98 newbie:
(1) what cost/difficulty would you estimate to DIY replace the turbo? I have done head gaskets and engine swaps during the 8 years I had the 850 so even though this V70 is a different animal I suspect I could do it, although I have not worked on a turbo before.
(2) what else to look for, other than ETM?
(3) any other advice?

To start, if it's an automatic then game over, don't even think about it! If it's a 5spd then your good, depending on how much they want.
Probably not the turbo at those miles. If so it's not hard and they are cheap. $200ish but I believe there are two different 16Ts (pertaining to oil/coolent feed locations)

As long the car doesn't need any other replacement or issue, I think it's solid pick up for $3,000.
I wanted an EVO but ended up with EVO chassis only

Not if it's an auto, period!
Haha I totally missed the petals as I was focused on the shifter.
