Before anyone asks, yes I did search and most topics I found were either old or I didn't understand fully.

My problem is that the SRS light is on in my car (98 s70 na/auto) and I would like to reset it. There are no dealers within 100 miles of me and there aren't any independent shops that deal with volvos that I know of in the area.

I have read that vol-FCR can be used, but I am not quite sure what that is other than software, or where to get it. I understand that I would need an ODBII adapter for it as well, but if someone could post a link of what I would need I would appreciate it.

If you can help, I would love to hear from you as I would like to fix the airbag problem as soon as possible.

Thanks

You need to find VOL-FCR online (free but if your not a wise googler then you will have to buy it)
Buy a VAG-COM cable on ebay (cheap-o ones will work fine, don't get fancy)

http://volvospeed.co...-compatibility/

This is the best set-up to get since it's cheap and will read & reset any system.

NOTE: for the people seeing this from googling, this does not work for 99+ Volvos.

Did you read what I wrote above? VOL-FCR beats the pants off that unit just a fraction of the cost.

So all I need is one of these (http://www.ebay.com/...e_Tools&vxp=mtr) and the vol-FCR software?

Anyone be willing to send me the software? Or point out where I could get it free?

Rumor has it that there is a cracked version of VOL-FCR floating around on Pirate Bay and bit-torrent. That rumored version, however needs a serial interface to work. It won't recognize the USB style cable.

Some USB to serial adapters work and others don't - I think it all comes down to how the drivers are written.

This is correct. I downloaded the program, theres a readme on how to get the drivers working so it recognizes the USB interface but for the LIFE of me i cannot get it to work!!! The directions are probably correct but don't seem to be "dumbed down" enough for normal people to understand. It really annoys me that i'm so close to resetting this damn light and can't get this last step.

Another thing, i have a USB to OBDII adapter and also went through the trouble of buying a regular serial to OBDII adapter, from there i had to borrow a friends computer that was old enough to have a serial port and STILL for some reason the program did not recognize the adapter.

Lucky me, i can't even open the program anymore due to some stupid windows registry issue. When i open the "cracked" version it says (Run-time error '339': Component 'MSCOMM32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid)

Do you have a vagcom cable?

The torrent serial version works perfect with the USB...

This is the cable i'm using, claims to be vagcom (elm327). http://www.ebay.com/...=item19cbbb9384

But do you mean i should be using this kind of vagcom? Which appears to be just vagcom and not elm327: http://www.ebay.com/...=item483da63f6f

I just got VOL-FCR working again but it still gives me the dreaded "interface error, check connections"...I've done everything. Made sure the port is set to COM1. Tried setting the baud rate as low as possible and everywhere between but still nothing. I'm not sure what else to do unless i truly am still using the wrong cable.

I have both and like I said, vagcom only!! It works instantly. ELM327 does not work, it works with other software but NOT volfcr

I believe so. I just ordered mine so it better be right haha. If i'm lucky i'll get it friday or saturday and i'll let you know if it works out. I got the $17.99 one that ships from new york rather than china...i don't mind paying more to have it sooner.

Just install the latest drivers, make sure your on port 1 and the speed is tuned down a bit. I run both this and the ELM327 on my Mac under windows 7 without issue. Also works on XP as I had a netbook that ran it for data logging.

Just to confirm, got my vagcom cable today and my computer finally communicated with my car! SRS GONE! The error was a driver side seat belt tensioner OC or something...i never touched anything when this light came on a year ago so it really pisses me off that stupid shit like this can cause such a headache

Be careful about some of those ebay auctions. Note that a lot of them ship from china (or somewhere outside the US) and have like 30 day shipping times. If you search for "north america" only (using the settings on the left column), you can find some seemingly identical models from sellers claiming to be based in the US and shipping from the US. Brings the ship time back to reality.

Will this one work? http://www.ebay.com/...=item4aa6e4d1e4

I'd like to get this problem fixed over the weekend if possible. Still unsure where to get the Vol-fcr program though. Maybe I'm just stupid and computer illiterate.

That will work, as it's a vag-com.

As for VOl-FCR, ummm, you will have to learn about the usual spots to get software and it's not something we can link to. Hint: TPB

OK, so i have the cable, just need to get the software figured out.

I downloaded a DEMO version of vol-fcr, but the cable is at my parents house so I havent had a chance to try it yet. Was hoping to get a version that has worked for people in the past, but it turns out I'm not the smartest with computers.

please delete- I really have no clue what TPB is
