go to advanced auto parts. they'll test your charging sytem for free and give u a nice print out. itll tell u ur cranking amps , amp output and voltage during load, drain test, and ur battery of course

car started after work today..tested with a multimeter, got 12.6ish off, when started got 14.5ish..hope everything is ok and battery continues to hold a charge.

2002 s40. 107,xxx.

Sounds like the alternator is producing.
Time to get the battery tested and start
taking a good look at cables and connections.
Dirty connectors at the battery would cause what
you've described. Check'em and clean'em.

And +1 on not pulling cables while running.
That was more of a '68 Chevelle kinda test.
You're spinning the big wheel doing that
with any newer electronics heavy car.
