i already read the pinned thread about radio codes, i had the battery out, put the wrong code in three times, i know the right code, now the radio says "off". im really supposed to let the key stay in the on position for 2 hours to get it to let me put new code in?

yes, key in ON position for two hours straight.

Key must at least be in the "accessory" position undisturbed so the radio says "OFF" for appx. 2 hours. It will then revert to "CODE" allowing you to put the CORRECT code in.

Or you can unplug the radio...
Worked for me at least when I first got a volvo radio for the 850.
3 wrong tries with the 2 different numbers (1 on radio, 1 in glove box), unplugged put it back then called volvo to get the code. this was all within 30 minutes.
