Paging all wheel paint gurus:

I bought a brand new set of 18" Anthracite Pegs and decided to refinish the old set on the car to match the new set. So I bought the Volvo wheel spray in Anthracite, color #932.

They are not the same shade! So here they are placed side by side.

Anthracite resprayed Peg on left: Original colored, new in box, "Anthracite" Peg on right.

So which one of these paint colors is the correct one to match a OEM Anthracite colored wheel on the right? Is there another paint code I'm missing? I have also heard this paint color referred to as "Graphite" in VIDA. If it helps, the part number for the new wheel is 30666580.
  • Silver 930
  • Dark Silver Metallic 931
  • Anthracite 932
  • Champagne 933
  • White Silver 935
  • Bright Silver 936
  • Silver Stone 938
Muchas Gracias.

I've painted AND TOUCHED up a few 18' Ti PEGS and found the spray can to match perfectly.
Did you not clear coat the ones you shot, do you have enough coats of paint on them?

You need to find FLAT clear, not the normal semi gloss, and I'll bet they will match afterwards.

If you did all that, I apologize and have no answer for you and that IS the right color!
Things are different now. Owned by China, Volvo has many new and different suppliers, so who knows if the new batch of colors are the exact same as the old.
Many things to consider...

These were sprayed by me years ago, some are original and some were painted, I forgot which but you could not detect any difference.

Hi Jim,

I did not clear coat the wheel that I refinished and repainted. I also used up the entire can of spray for the wheel on the left. I started on one wheel and stopped when I noticed the color discrepancy.

I am tempted to try "Dark Silver Metallic" to see if it is a closer match.

I just finally decided to refinish the wheels in Duplicolor's Graphite and do all 4 on the car to the same color.

ohhh very nice smellvin! Are you going to clear coat those? They look fantastic I was just curious what you did in regards to finishing them. Did you use the rattle can or pistol grip? Send me a close up picture of the color & the can because I have to decide what I want to do with the Propus / Porpoises. I like the Stock color butI am open to options. Did you use the walk through that I sent you or did you just freestyle it? Regardless they came out great so good job now send me them 17s

Curtissss,

I did not clear coat them at all. Well, I followed your instructions mostly. Started sanding them with 120 grit on an orbit sander, and then followed up with a little hand sanding with 180 grit in the tight spots. Had to get the light scuff marks out too. Then a quick wash with dish detergent and towel dry. Finally spray painting, one light coat, then a second heavy /wet coat to get the paint to flow to dry mirror smooth.

I shook the can a lot and kept it warm with my space heater so it wouldn't shoot out chunks. Since temps now aren't exactly ideal for spraying.

I used Duplicolor wheel paint HWP102, graphite. A lot cheaper than the Volvo branded stuff.

Still deciding if I should keep the 17" or not.

Since you are so awesome, I braved the cold and walked into my garage to retrieve this can to take the pic.

The painted wheel is on the left, compared to the OEM Anthracite Peg on the right. The lighting is not ideal nor uniform. It is a shade darker than the R caliper's metallic silver.

This is the difference in color between a bright silver Peg and the graphite paint.

What happened with your set, Travis? Did the paint corrode and chip off from the salt?

You still need to clear ANY paint you use of they will get pretty bad... pretty quickly
Again, FLAT clear for Titanium wheels
If you don't want it to last, then don't do anything!

I don't mind graphite wheels on a black car. The wheels never saw snow with me, I sold them

Rattle can paints do not harden like properly mixed gun sprayed paints.

Honestly even a pancake compressor will run a detail gun that puts out as much paint as a rattle can
