So the timing belt tensioner just went out on my car. I don't think the valves were damaged becuase the belt never came off. I just had the tensioner replaced and the engine timing done. However now I have a very rough idle, that sort that mustangs that have a stage 2 or 3 cam have. In the past I adjusted the exhaust and intake cams to -/+ 4 degrees respectively(can't remeber which was which but I did it to IPD's recommendations for turbo engines). I was going to undo this as advised by a volvospeed member but then the timing belt tensioner went. So my question is could this timing on the exhaust and intake cans be causing my very rough idle? Or is it more likely plugs, coil, etc? Also is this bad for the engine? I don't want to run the engine if it could dammage it long term.
Extra note, it backfires a ton when I step on the go pedal when at speed.
Thanks

It does not say in your thread that you double checked the timing marks...have you?

The belt could have still skipped a tooth (or more) when the tensioner failed. If you didn't check if the timing was still good with the original set up, I would say that you do have valve damage. Granted that you checked timing is correct now.
