Just finished up my last semester and got a BA in Physics Engineering. I got a job doing printer work at a local hospital to tide me over till the summer. Then the carreer hunt begins!

Congrats. How is Physics or Engineering in the "Arts" field? Shouldn't it be BSc?

My school only offers BA's, they claim the education to be more broad than offering BS's for science fields. I dont see the difference though; I've talked to other general engineering students and we took basically all the same classes.

Congrats. Good luck, you might actually do alright with the job search because you didn't get a worthless rag of a degree like I did.

Now is the time to job hunt btw, 1st 1/4 usually entails new budgets so companies hire. Congrats though, I tried a semester of engineering before I just kind of laughed and said this is nooottt for me

I would try to get into the job market ASAP... Find a employer that helps you out with school so you can work and go to school at the same time.

I see a lot of kids graduating college with BS then getting a right away Masters and no actual work experience in their field with 70k worth of student loans. To be able to be paid in most fields you need experience over education IMO

This.
Plus, you can always just get your masters while working. I have a BA in economics from UMD, and grabbed a gov't job two months out of college. It's boring and I would love a change, but I'm getting paid good money, have job security, and they're paying for my MBA. I just look at it as being in school again, but with more money lol. Good luck dude! I would definitely pursue your masters ASAP, as the bachelors degree is becoming the new high school diploma.

Between my father who's been in the engineering industry for 25 years, family friends, colleagues, my school advisors, professors..they all say the same thing. Get hired as quick as you can, then worry about the rest later. You can always move to another company in the future if you have the opportunity, but locking in that first position is key.

Have you had any co-op/internships? And just curious what your coursework has been to achieve a Physics Engineering degree. I'm a Mech. Engr. student, obviously most of my core classes are Physics based (Statics, Dynamics, Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, etc.). I'm just curious at how far off our degrees are.

In any event, congratulations and good luck with the job hunt!

Dave is right. You also get a lot more out of your Masters (esp. MBA) with some working experience. That was what I did after finishing my engineering degree at ASU. Besides after you start working, your GPA becomes irrelevant to future employers. They place more emphasis on your employment resume and experience. So I don't even list that number anymore.

I just got accepted into my UMUC Cybersecurity Grad Cert through my company. They pay for everything for 1.5 years (classes are only in the spring and fall, I have summers off) and then I can continue to get my Masters with UMUC for an extra 1.5 years. Again I wont have to pay a dime for that since It is part of the $5k my company provides for graduate classes. So in 3 years I will have a BS in Computer Information Systems, Grad Cert and Masters in Cybersecurity with 8 years experience and also big certs for my job.

Find a good job in what you want to do for a career and make sure they offer good 401(k)/any retirement and tuition for studies.

Well, in my case I want to be an urban planner, and there is no undergraduate program in Urban Planning, only a master's program. Therefore, I'm going to go into the Master's program right from undergrad.

Why not look for a job having something to do with urban planning? And then see what the job has to offer as far as school?

I got a job, not one in the engineering field, but it still pays well and is somewhat in the tech field. There aren't much jobs in my small town of 15,000 so I'm waiting till my lease is up and I move back to Denver to look for an engineering job.

I took all the basic engineering classes (Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamics, Fluids) some EE classes (Electrical Circuits, Digital Logic) plus a good amount of purely physics classes (Modern Physics, Principles of Electricity and Magnetism, Quantum Physics)

I completely agree...because in the end, who cares about a piece of paper you have hanging somewhere that you did something? It's about EXPERIENCE. And yea, fuck it, have someone else cover your schooling costs. I completed my BS on a full ride state scholarship, and now getting my MBS through work...just found out I'm going to be finishing earlier than planned... I'm shooting for them to pay for a PhD...I think it would like nice on my fridge with my other 3 pieces of college paper.

Welcome to the TRIP...
