First of all I want to thanks everyone on all of Volvo threads.I am new on this and only this site,I have search a lot of Volvo site in regards to this engine code p0442 something about converter thrash high.Anyway not fully understanding what is really going on,some people say change the 02 sensor first that could be the problem.I just purchased the Volvo with 160K 1 owner in great condition inside and out except for this code. Can anyone lead me in the right direction before I start replace stuff that don't need replacing.Thanks.

I get that code all the time in my s60 but I'm not running a cat so my o2 sensor reads too much exhaust. If I had to guess your issue is either a bad o2 sensor or your cat is toast and you need to get another one. I think AutoZone sells the sensor for around $100. As for the cat you could probably find one for less than $250 at a muffler shop. Good luck!
