re: carpc, even though it's not related to the OP's main point of the post.

It's super useful. I can set up my dropbox to sync directly with my car, music is always fresh because the radio is garbage these days. oh, and also not to mention i can always do \\v70r\ and dump anything i want into the shared drives, including movies and audio. it helps on 8 hour drives from SF -> LA.

Paul, thanks for the contribution.

GS, thanks for the extra tips in adding to Paul's write-up.

Personally, I like my Viper with pager. I did, however, disconnect my remote start the day after Jason and Paul witnessed my car reverse up a curb, almost into a retail shop. I'm glad my door was open and I was able to jump in and get it out of gear!! I haven't connected the remote start since. My dad parks the car in the garage, and I definitely don't want the car inside the house anytime soon!

Paul, keep it up.

I can't comment on your specific Viper starter, but both Viper and Compustar do make starters, or alarm/ starter combos that are compatable with manual transmisions to prevent this very thing from happening, it works only if installed correctly.

During the installation process their is a jumper that if it remains intact the brain will act as if it were in manual trans mode, meaning that the installer has to go out of their way to change the way the brain acts, from manual transmission mode to auto transmission mode, by cutting the jumper.

In these manual transmission complatable starters, if the jumper remains intact and the installer does a succesfull job installing, you can only start the car only if the car is percieved to have been shut-off in safety mode.
Safety mode:
- Would have you place the car in neutral
- Put on your park brake (park brake sensor needs to be installed properly)
- Remove your key from the ignition
- You exit the car, and till you close the doord the car will remain running. (dome light sensor needs to be installed properly)
- Once all doors are closed the car will shut off and lock the doors (unless you have a feature such as turbo-timer then your car will and close the door.
Following the above steps ensures that you exited and locked your car while it was in neutral. if at any point your car's doors are opened, safety mode is reset. So you can restart your car knowing you exited the car and locked the doors while it was in neutral, if at any point you or anyone else went back in the car and accidentaly/ or intentionally placed the car in gear, then the car will not start...

Its a bit of a pain, but if you live in a climate where you would benefit from a car starter, and you have a manual, you get used to it pretty quickly.

This didn't work for the wife, so we upgraded her car to an automatic, as she would always exit the car properly and then forget her phone, purse, or something else in the car and go back in, and then wonder why the car wouldn't start...

this made me laugh out loud. literally.

not even close.

Really? I've done both, and the carpc was easier the first time than the remote start/alarm.

Also show me how you can play Mario Kart with a genuine N64 controller with the Kenwood deck. They dont even list that on the kenwood website AT ALL.

That's actually an easy one. Plug a genuine N64 into the AV input on the back of the Kenwood.
