Won't be too much longer until I tear into the turbo to replace a leaky gasket. I've spent some time looking around and in my Chiltons but can't find much of anything in the way of a good turbo diagram. Trying to Google S70 turbo returns hits related to the GLT and not the turbo itself surprisingly lol.
Anyway, if anyone has or can provide such information, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

For one there are no gaskets...

As for a diagram, it's a extremely basic set-up. I rod with bushings and a thrust washer. A diagram won't do much for ya.

There isn't a gasket on the oiling system from the engine? I believe oil is leaking into the turbo and getting into the exhaust, periodically I get rather heavy smoke and burnt oil smelling exhaust and a little from under hood.

No gasket, just brass bushings that work as bearings. There is also a slip ring type of thing on the shaft, exhaust side. This get coked up but you might have bad valve stem seals instead. I'm not 100% on that though.

Miles? PCV replaced?

115K, no idea. Oil is getting burned though, my 2 indications are exhaust and valves when it gets low. I really need to monitor oil level better.......

Get it up to operating tempature, then pull the dipstick. If you have a lot of smoke coming out at idle and when revving then your PCV is shot. If it's never been done then it's probably bad. That will be your main source of oil useage issues.

When it comes to these vehicles, it's very rare to have the turbo fail. It's possible, but unlikly.

Also, timing belt? was that done at 70K? if not get on that!!!!

Yeah, she has no idea about the timing belt, nor where she may have had it done, so I have one already, and water pump.

Someone else mentioned the smoking dipstick, I'll go check that here shortly before running to advance.

Also, unrelated, gas caps, seems replacement are Stant, can I get OEM, or even need OEM? (Many evap codes)

So yeah, I pulled the dip stick and some smoke was wafting out, and upon rev'ing the engine it would puff out with RPM increase.
So, I went to Advance Auto, and they say it's not needed/they don't carry it. Wasted trip aside from ABC stop.
Is this a dealer only part?

Dealer if you want to get ripped off. Get the parts online and read the million and a half topics on it.

Damn, I was hoping to get one tonight and replace it tomorrow along with the CVA.
Oh well, I'll check IPD and FCP.

Thanks for all your help PD!!

Okay, the only PCV valves I've delt with mount in the valve covers on V8's. Can you give me a link to exactly what I need to order please. IPD didn't have a PCV valve exactly.

Or verify the part is also called an oil trap.
Thanks!

FCP do a full kit , 4-5 hours as a novice/2hours for my mechanic ( or so he says........ ) get some hose and worm drive clamps for the other hoses down there as they will be no good either , easier to do while the inlet mani is off , check the hoses off the intercooler for cracks too....It seems that a lot of engine failures come from the cooling system being neglected and on my old T5 the whole system was replaced , but NOT the thermostat , a $13 part that takes so little time was jammed and caused a slight overheat and so now it blows some gasses into the coolant , CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT regularly.....

Breather System. Plan on removing the intake manifold, it's the only sane way to do the job. Make sure you order the intake manifold gasket.
Replace ALL the breather components, don't cheap out. Also make sure you clean the ports in the block when you take it apart.

This is a breakout of the turbo lines

But, as PD pointed out, it most likely clogged breather. The oil drain tube gasket can leak, but that comes down, not onto or into the exhaust.

Valve stem seals are also very common, but they will typically only cause smoke on startup & then go away until the car sits again, unless they are VERY bad, at which point the oil can leak past the manifold gaskets & cook on the manifold, ask me how I know.

Sweet, thanks guys. I'm ordering a kit from IPD today, it includes all the hoses, clamps, intake gasket and of course, the PCV valve for $120.

What do you do to clean the ports (intake I'm guessing)?

While $4 bucks is a trivial amount, FCP didn't exactly make the greatest impression with my first order from them.
