I have had my Xentec HID's for over a year now and they have worked flawlessly. Recently when i have gone to turn them on they take about 5-10 seconds to even turn on and i get a bulb out warning until then. In the past they have fired right up. Any idea what would be causing this?

DDM HIDs suck. I used to have them and ditched them for 4300k VVME HIDs. Much higher quality and more accurate color temperatures. Never had a single problem with them installed and its been over a year

i think it is unusual that they would go at the exact same time. Also forgot to add that this problem is intermittent since it started. Sometimes they still fire right up.

Do you have some unknown switch that turns on you L and R headlamps independently? Of course they come on at the same time. He's questioning why both ballasts are failing at the same time.

your light switch contact points could be corroded? mayb they take 5-10 minutes because the car warms up in that period and causes some reaction somewhere? just brainstorming out loud to help out

Aftermarket ballasts have a problem with pulling way more power on startup than OEM, so it puts extra stress on the wiring. I run some DDM-style slim ballasts for my fogs and so far no issues, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if some arose.

Also, all the aftermarket slim ballasts are the same. Doesn't matter who's brand name is on them, "Sharp", "DDM", "Apexcone". They cost $8-12/pair but are becoming more difficult to import into the US. As a matter of fact, DDM had an entire shipment seized by US Customs due to DOT regulations.
