I'm looking into possibly doing a manual swap for my car provided I can find the parts. However, I don't think exactly trust myself enough mechanically to try it myself on my car as it's my daily driver and I want to minimize screw ups and downtime. The most I've ever done was replace the PCV system on my previous car and install new struts, endlinks, shocks and springs on this car.
Would anyone be interested in helping me out if I'm able to collect the parts? Preferably someone who's done this before. I'm currently looking around to get a sense of what a shop would charge, but obviously it'd be cheaper to do it with help. I'm willing to pay someone in some sort of combination of pizza, beer and/or cash.
If you have any parts I'd need, let me know as well.
Thanks.
-Phil

I just started a swap too recently. I'm fortunate to have a hoist to do this job but i have had trouble finding the time. There's alot of write ups on how to do it you can print off this site. A lot of guys have done this in driveway's on jackstands..God Bless them. There's a shop in Olympia that will do it for about $1,700 if you have the parts already. They recently did a swap on a black 850R..They have a few pics posted online from their website. Sounds like you have the ability to do the job but not the experience. With no experience you will be looking at some downtime..You won't finish in a day. I got my parts by buying a working donor car. keep in touch and let me know how your progress goes..Maybe we will meet up sometime.

Its not that bad. A sat and sun job and your done. Jackstands work fine. Hardest part is finding all the pieces

Sweet. My company has an office down in Portland so... going down there for an extended weekend is a definite possibility. I'll start looking for a parts car down there.

Aurora auto wrecking in Seattle typically has manual trannies, $300 is what I paid for my second one. Get a European R clutch kit from any Volvo dealership ~$300, source a flywheel I had mine shipped from a wrecker in Portland $110. It takes a little effort,,"you gotta to want it. Hardest part is fishing in the clutch master cylinder its a bugger.

Chris was $300 just for the tranny itself or everything (cables, pedals, etc)? I'm guessing not cause it was your second? Lolol

I've been working on a swap myself(with help from someone who has done a few of these before) and have been fighting with the pedals. We've got the tranny in and I think as soon as we get past the pedal road blocks(what a pain), the rest will go quick. I'm at his mercy though and he hasn't had a lot of time lately. We'll get it though.. Just a matter of time. Wish it'd be done already. I really miss my car.
