I am looking for some guidance re: an intermittent P1071 code (lean mix, bank 1) on my 2007 S80 L6 NT. The CEL comes on occasionally and will go off by itself if left alone for several days (varies). If it's reset it will come back on within a few weeks. Atmospheric conditions don't seem to matter; it's happened when it was 80 degrees and when it was 25.

What are possible causes for this ghost-like code? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean P0171? Vacuum leak or possibly MAF?

Yes, I did; sorry about that. What would the easiest way be to track a possible vacuum leak? Any particular brand of MAF that is better than another? Thanks.

i had this same problem on my 850, found a vacuum leak on the manifold, one of the vacuum nipples was just sucking air... whatever should have been connected was gone... guessing maybe it was supposed to just have a cap on it- i capped it off and the codes went away...

Id suspect a vacuum leak somewhere... you can do things like smoke tests- also just try and listen closely with the hood up, i found my leak after "whats that strange hissing sound"

Yeah with your car you are not going to have cracked lines probably, but something may have come unattached. Just run through all your lines and see if anything is obvious first.

Hey, thanks. I will check out the vacuum leak possibility as suggested. FYI, I came across a post on another forum from a couple of years ago that said it could be a dirty MAF sensor, which I cleaned a few days ago. I reset the code, will check on the vacuum issue, will see how it goes in the next couple of weeks, and will repost if the code returns. Thanks again.

I have the same code with my 02 S60. How many miles does your car have? Does it make a squealing noise when warm? If yes take out the oil dipstick. If the noise goes away you may have to replace your oil/flame trap. That's what I need to do. It's said that it usualy needs replacement every 75.000 miles. Parts run about 105$ at the dealer. You need to remove the intake manifolds to get to the box. New gasket for that is needed in addition to the box and hoses.

Update on my issue with the P0171 code. I saw somewhere else that a good cleaning of the MAF works. I did it the next day (about 3 weeks now), and the code has not returned. I'm hoping that this was the problem. Just wanted to let others know. Thanks.
