hiyas - my 2002 S60 AWD started yesterday, idled a moment, but when i pressed the gas pedal it conked out - and now it won't turn over at all - it cranks and occasionally i hear it try and kick over but then goes right back to the crank - starting to get battery low voltage reading, i guess because i am cranking it over and over hoping it will turn over - also saw a reduced engine performance reading after i cranked it a bunch last night

fuel filter? pump? timing? - wondering if i can trust a local guy or should i definitely get it to a dealership

thank you for any insight

If you press the shcrader valve at the end of the fuel rail do you get a burst of fuel or a small dribble?

Crank it for a moment and then stop, THEN go and see if there's pressure.

only dribbled out of the valve - car started for a moment when i sprayed starting fluid into the intake - guess i will try changing fuel filter in the morning

thanks for the advice - at least now i am pretty sure it's a fuel pressure issue

Very doubtful the fuel filter is going to resolve your issue. Have you checked to see if the fuel pump recall has been completed?

didn't know about a recall but just checked and saw a lot of talk about it from last year - guess i have to call the dealership to see if it is still in effect?

Dealership replaced my fuel pump under the recall for free and I had over 100k on it.

i don't think NJ was on the recall list - only certain states like Florida, Arizona and Nevada - i'll have to find out for sure

or maybe the fuel filter swap in the morning will help me and i won't have to change the pump

i've been fortunate so far with not having to repair too much yet since i bought it in 2008, so i guess i am due

mechanic calls me and says they received my car from the tow company - he got in it, and it started up

i had cranked it for 3 days with no start - wonder if being parked on a hill affected anything - or maybe the fuel filter i changed needed a little while to kick in for some reason?

so now they're doing a check up to see if they find anything peculiar in the system

very weird

seems back to normal now after 3 days of cranking it with it not starting - stalled car was rolled in neutral across an avenue to a tow truck, went for a 4 mile ride on the flatbed, and then the next morning it somehow started up before the mechanic even did anything - he though it could be that the fuel filter change fixed it, but not immediately, since by then the battery was very weak from all of the previous cranking - so maybe i needed a fully charged start up to get everything going again, after i'd changed the filter

nice not having to drop $400+, and labor $, on a new fuel pump, but i wish i knew for sure what happened

same problem I'm having now on my 02 s60 t5, just serviced, fuel filter, ETM cleaned & PCV system changed, battery went dead. Replaced battery, 041 Reduced Engine Performance. Will try Shrader valve in the morning. Will crank but not start :( Might be the ETM also?

Thanks :) Mechanic is coming over today to scan it. Hopefully it's something really small.

Ended up being low fuel causing this problem. The car was [arked on a slant in a bad position where the fuel was draining away from the fuel tank.

Oh good! I've seen that happen to one customer before car won't start he would have it towed in and car would start right up I had maybe 12 hours into the car checking all the components and what not. Good thing it was a slow two days haha
