My 98 V70 lately has been having a hard time starting during the last couple of cold early morning starts. Being up here in Canada the weather can easily reach -15 and lower in the mornings. here is my issue only when extremely cold:

-Car engine cranks, car turns on for a breif moment then the engine dies
-Crank car for about 5-7 times engine is turning over but it is not catching (car may turn on again maybe once for a brief moment and then die)
-Car finally turns on acts 100% normal

Im stumped at this because the car is pretty much up to date on all forms of maintenance, vac and engine performance is normal, there is also no CEL.
I'm also somewhat ruling out freezing of the gas because i never run the gas tank less than half and we apparently have a "winter blend" gasoline up here, also if the lines were frozen wouldnt that mean that the car wouldnt start at all in the cold???

I was thinking maybe there could be condensation in the intercooler piping somehow messing with the TB signal or IAC?

Any advice and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Codes checked?  Possibly fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump.  Could also be a spark issue if you haven't replaced those items in your maintenance lately (assuming you have from your post though). Also, http://volvospeed.co...20#entry2056961

Don't want to state the obvious but have you checked the condition of your battery? When was last time you replaced it? Good battery should measure 12.6v ... check it on a cold day?

good call on the battery. i did however replace it just last spring, i didnt even bother to check the voltage of the car. but if the battery didnt have sufficient charge wouldnt the car not even turn over to begin with?

As said previously no CEL, will go over over spark components when i get the chance, I have an MSD coil pack that was installed by the previous owner gonna switch that out with an OEM coil

Just read through the thread where another fellow had a similar problem http://volvospeed.co...20#entry2056961, for him, it was the fuel pump relay, it needed to be replaced.

That was me, the best advice I received was to pull the relay at night, put it back in the morning when its cold out, If the car starts 99.9% its the relay. Worked for me. Good Luck.

did you bother trying what i told you.

remove the fuel pump relay, keep it inside, put it back inside in the morning and it will start right up.

Same with the AWD... if you don't actually own one, or never have, or plan to do so, then shut your pie hole.
