Advice: Moral Etm Support

The previous owned had said the dealer told him the ETM was going bad but I have had no issues until it started getting really cold. I'm assuming it's the ETM and will have an xemodex ordered tomorrow but I wanted to get some feedback. As I don't want to assume on this since I have no codes stored yet.
Think it's the ETM?
Symptoms:
Limp mode
21MPG highway
White label ETM (orignal)
Sidenote: Anyone ever rebuild these units themselves?

I found the manufacturer of the digital angle sensors from China but they wouldn't import it. I'm pretty sure that Xemodex has the rights on the patent or at least some type of exclusive distribution with the manufacturer. Not sure where you can find the OE sensor. I just paid Xemodex for their unit. I also replaced my MAF first to rule it out. My Xemodex unit went bad after a year and they sent me a new one under warranty this last spring. So they can still go bad but they were OK about sending another after having me check for other possible issues.

I wish the dealer would cover it but it's over the 10 years as this was brought into the states in 2000.
Anyway, so no way to just replace the little sheets that get rubbed away? that sucks since it's such a basic part that could be swapped out. I get a shop discount from XemodeX but I was also looking at a yellow tag ETM on ebay for $170.
Is it even worth going with a used yellow tag as I would have to get it reprogrammed after installing it anyway so that would ad up to almost the cost of an xemodex.

If you want to pay for shipping and a big enough deposit, you can use my dice clone for a month. But you'd have to research loading up VIDA on a laptop and figure out how to use it. It's downloadable on the net but the version is picky on what OS you can use. LMK. It's just been sitting in a box as I've not had any issues requiring its use lately (knock on wood).

Anyway realisticly at 11 years, 140K miles with a white label ETM it's bound to be the ETM.
Thanks for the offer on VIDA, I have to just go and order one of the china knockoffs.

Pony up for the xemodex, the other shit is a waste of time. Also, installing used units does not require re-programming. The only caveat is that only turbo ETM's can be swapped with turbo models, same goes for the Denso stuff (N/A)

You just need to stay turbo to turbo or NA to NA. Heck Lamborghini uses the same POSs.

I'm fine with going with XemodeX but I need to get one installed while that ships. I have a white label 01 turbo unit at the shop that I need to install ASAP as the wifes getting pissed. She doesn't like limp mode....
Anything special about the contact trip? can it be hand made with a different metal or is it a special resistive strip?

Once programmed they don't need to be programmed again, but buying a used ETM is a very tricky proposition

Although since it acts up when the vehicle hasnt warmed up then wouldnt I be in closed loop and not running MAF parameter? Also it being a white label, 11 year old unit and happends only while at about 10% throttle I suspect it's ETM related. That's why I started this topic as I don't want to just toss an ETM on there just becuase....
Damn vehicles never give up codes when you want them to but once you don't want one, bam CEL in your face...

And if you didn't know, Xemodex doesn't require you to ship yours in first any more. You give them your information and they can program and overnight one to you and you send yours back after replacement.

There are two at this point. One will import with a set quantity (large), the other won't.
I plan on doing ETM's with the DAS by the fall and also the 2002 and up ABS units...the mk25e's. The ETM's aren't an issue at this point, the BCM/ABS units still are though.
ETM's won't be sold with support on the consumer end, if I even sell to consumers at all and at this point I likely won't. There are too many variables and I foresee it turning into a support nightmare. It would likely be easiest just to deal with the indies I've normally been dealing with. I just don't have the time to hold hands even if I do quit my regular job. If so, it's going to be at a premium and I'll have to create a different sales outlet for the consumer side which would include hiring a regular tech that wouldn't mind doing shitloads of email.
ABS/BCM's I'm still on the fence whether or not to go straight to shop or go both. I'm currently at a 50/50 split on my regular 96-2001 ABS business with the shops using 5% support and the consumer side using 95%. It would be nice to repair and ship all day instead of being tied to a phone and computer.

Anyway, I did install a K&N into this vehicle when I did a tune-up right after I bought the vehicle. Unlikely that it toasted the MAF but I will clean it today and see what happens.

Little bugger was a pain to find! Had to keep the computer on, scanning and data logging until that popped up. Then it would clear after the next scan. Errr
Thanks guys!

More than likely, but I wouldn't be able to provide any hand-holding with them. Instructions with pics would be about it.
