My ETM finally went kabuum, time for rebuild
I herd about Xemodex but they charge over $500 where new unit costs just under $400
I found BBA reman and they do it for $250 any feedback from those guys?

Where do you guys rebuild your ETM affordably?

MSRP is $749, but even if you can get the part at that price you aren't figuring in dealer programming costs.  Plus the fact that you are getting a flawed design still and no lifetime warranty. BBA reman same thing, only a little cheaper and will also likely need programming.

If you are on a white label unit, do you need reprogramming to a yellow label?

I honestly don't know how it works -- why some people have been able to replace with a used one without programming and why others need it.  Maybe MattyMoo knows since he's been looking in to it.  I know that Xemodex doesn't need additional dealer programming though.

I thought Xemodex did need a programming? since Ive installed on that didnt work because they sent use one with the updated software, and the vehicle didnt have that update from the dealer. Can't remember what the number was called for the dealer update.

errr, I really wish I could edit...

Did you get one from Xemodex? When they first started selling these a couple years ago, they would have you send your unit in, then refurb the hardware and send it back to you. That way there would be no reason to update software because you'd be getting yours back. Now they say they have the ability to take one off the shelf, program it to your car, send it to you, then you send your old core back once the new one was installed. When I had to get a warranty replacement this last spring, they did this for me and it was plug and play as advertised.

It was on a 99-00 at work. So no I have not replaced my unit yet as I'm trying to get just the sensor itself instead. I talked to xemodex today and they won't sell just the sensor and they only buy cores for $20 bucks haha!

My feedbakc on XeMODeX:

I was a early adopter, Got mine in January 2009 for my 99xc70. First one did not work. Second one worked. Since then i had it installed in the xc70 and when i sold that car in Sept of 2010. I took off the xemodex etm and swapped it with my 01 c70. sold the car with the 01 c70 etm that has 92k on it.

Since then my C70 has been flawless, drive great and no idle issues. mind you it was originally from my 99xc70.

I have a friend that has a 01 s60 2.5t and it had drive issues related to the etm. ordered one up and it came in a few days with me providing them with a vin only. that car now has 20k + on it and my buddie is still loving his s60. dealer quoted new trans, new etm plus programming for $4000. I helped him do t/b, w/p, plugs, coil packs, etm, trans flush, pcv and motor mounts and it still didnt equal to half that dealers quote.

They say it cant, but i have swapped these etm's amongst my cars and they work. my xemodex etm has 30k plus on it and my old c70 etm has another 25k on it with the new owner of the xc70. my friends s60 has 20k plus, so from experience they not bad, they good. Now for BBA reman, they did the abs module on my c70 and i lost traction control. convertibles have wheel spin sensors that retard the engine. that doesnt work any more and i cant turn off tracs either now. bba sucks, spend the extra bucks and get the xemodex.

*Sighs*

I don't know how many times I've said this, turbo to turbo ETM swap is ok. N/A to N/A swap will work, you cannot interchange them (ME7 vs. Denso) Otherwise no programming is needed, and everything is a bolt on affair.

Done it dozens of times, I know it works.

ummm, then why is it that 155 campaign updates don't swap into vehicles that didn't have that update? I had an Xemodex ETM that was going to go into a 99 that did not have the 155 update and the ETM did....

155 also affected ECM software, so that could be part of the problem. There were also several software versions for the 155 recall, the last and final being after 6/07, so any done before that could have potential issues. I've run across just a handful of early updates/no updates that had some strange issues, but none after the final version of the software. Given that virtually all of the cars on the road have the latest and greatest, this really isn't an issue that prohibits ETM swaps.
